Ashley, we don’t believe you.
Dignity in Dying has funding they absolutely didn’t just find in a pot of gold at the end a rainbow.
The advertising they’ve paid for alone screams wealthy donors are involved.
And it’s several Labour MPs arguing against reason and basic common sense about safeguarding to get this bill through with as few safeguards as possible.
Why? Were you aware they voted down safeguards for non-terminal disabilities?
What AD bill ONLY for terminally ill people needs to remove safeguards for those with autism, anorexia, Down’s syndrome or diabetes, Ashley?
Because that’s the point when it became very clear this bill is sinister and it is this government’s preferred alternative to funding proper palliative care and having so many people on disability benefits.
Why now? Why be so desperate to rush this through? Convenient timing with 50% benefit cuts for disabled people who are new claimants.
This government is also very aware there are only around 700k jobs in this country for millions who are unemployed and looking for work.
They’re also facing the consequences of letting a mass disabling virus let rip and all the newly disabled people who need support.
This IS Labour’s bill. Don’t treat people like they’re stupid and can’t figure this out for themselves. Labour is very aware they’d lose even more voters if this was stated as their bill.
The way to get this through was find a charity to do it to make it look like “helping terminally ill people” when it’s actually the government wanting to save money by any means.

@PolitlcsUK I must clarify this is NOT a Labour Bill. There are plenty in the party, like me, that do not support it and find it dangerously flawed and unsafe.

It looks as though Vladimir Putin may have ordered an arson attack against the British Prime Minister last year.
That is an incredibly serious escalation and shows why we must redouble our efforts with Ukraine and the rest of Europe to resist and deter Putin’s aggression.

Your reminder today, as no one will report it, that the leading children's protection charity in the UK, NSPCC, opposes a blanket ban on social media, along with many other children's safety groups.
This is what they've said:
"But for countless children, especially those who feel shut out or unheard offline, social media isn’t a luxury. It’s a lifeline – a source of community, identity, and vital support.
“A blanket ban would take those spaces away overnight and risks driving teenagers into darker, unregulated corners of the internet. Everyone involved in this debate will have the best interests of children at heart, but children’s fundamental right to participate safely in the digital world, to access information, to connect with peers, and to have their voices heard must be protected. They should not be stripped of those rights because tech companies have repeatedly failed to build platforms that protect them."

So a deeply dangerous bill that intends to remove safeguards once it’s through the door is being forced AGAIN and refuses to ensure safeguarding.
Anyone who gives a damn about people being able to make a decision on AD without coercion being a factor, will oppose this bill.
Unfortunately, many will still back this bill because it’s the cheaper solution.
They would rather let you, your loved ones suffer to the point of asking for AD rather than fund proper palliative care. That’s already coercion. It’s also cheaper to people being on benefits. In a country that let a mass disabling virus let rip - this is a cost saving bill.
But we knew this was the agenda since the committee stage when we first heard them vote away safeguards for non terminal disabilities. No one needs AD for autism, Down’s syndrome, anorexia or diabetes. But that’s what they voted on. Any safeguards in place to get this bill through the door is smoke and mirrors to allow state sanctioned death via the back door.
It must fail. This bill is completely unsafe for all. Even those they’re hiding this appalling bill behind. They’re using these terminally ill people to get this through. They do not care what happens with them at all.
