What this DBS experience and the many scans and checkups reminded me, though, was the importance of treating patients as humans no matter the intervention. I was treated with such exceptional care. Not everyone needs or wants holes in their head. Everyone deserves compassion.

The really cool thing about deep brain stimulation, though, is that in addition to jolting your brain this device eavesdrops on it, refining neurophysiological squiggles. And maybe this can improve our understanding of, and ways of treating, unwell brains. theglobeandmail.com/opinion/articl…
