@insidethegroove @Madonna Fair point! That overstates it, especially in the UK. What I meant is that Madonna helped mainstream the language of house within pop. Vogue wasn’t the beginning of house going mainstream but it was a key crossover moment in pop’s relationship with it.

@andygoss @Madonna Not to diminish anything about Madonna’s greatness and Vogue in particular, but Madonna did NOT make house mainstream. In the UK at least, it had been huge. From Love Can’t Turn Around to Jack Your Body, huge chart topping house tracks had been around for four years already.
