as an aside, i visited several shinto shrines while in japan and had the pleasure of observing a shinto wedding at one of them along with experiencing their way of offering and paying respects and it was all genuinely fascinating

i've read so much kitsune lore over the course of my yokai obsession that i love all the different ways they can be portrayed whether as heavenly servants of the shinto kami inari or as tricksters or as malevolent spirits seducing their prey before devouring their souls
