@julsgars810 @bilbosfootcomb @Seymour_Lolis i don’t think anti-Zionism should come with preambles that only pander to people who just end up being liberal Zionists, and will call everything antisemitism—it decentres actual Zionist victims. as for the Sam Harris thing, i just think you’re being pedantic for pedantry’s sake.

@thotmikli @julsgars810 @bilbosfootcomb @Seymour_Lolis that’s partially the point of this entire thread. Christian nationalism and New Atheism (or “Reddit atheism”) are fully aligned in manufacturing consent for imperialism and anti-immigrant rhetoric. in fact, New Atheism made way for Christian nationalism to flourish today.

@antrbl @julsgars810 @bilbosfootcomb @Seymour_Lolis It's only perceived to attack Muslims more because the only other group that attacks Islam are far right fundamentalist Christians, which New Atheism also hates. That being said, raw hatred was never good for convincing people of secular values so it was still a misstep.

@julsgars810 @bilbosfootcomb @Seymour_Lolis what i said is i think ultimately, it only obscures from the fact that Zionism is the most dominant strain of Judaism when it matters most. anything else, and you’re extrapolating something i did not say.

Malala’s biggest crimes are believing liberal feminism will liberate women, and not denouncing the co-optation of her genuine activism and work by American imperialism when she has long since had the chance.
SJS_monitor@SJSharks_fish

@qjxikqdwjzsf4 Malala's biggest crime was being a woman who stood up for women's rights.

@julsgars810 @bilbosfootcomb @Seymour_Lolis i disagree—the distinction feels very similar to the distinction people often make w/ Zionism and Judaism. ultimately, it only obscures from the fact that New Atheism and Zionism are or were the most dominant strains of their respective umbrella categories when it mattered most.

@xingyuelvr @britpak77 on the first part, i think you’re just arguing semantics tbh. as for the glazing, i think from a historical standpoint, it’s not wrong to point out that Islam was progressive in recognizing certain rights of women.

@britpak77 legal systems and religions can protect or restore rights, but they don't invent them. human rights exist inherently because of our shared humanity, any laws put simply recognize what should have been protected all along, so islam shouldn't be glazed for doing the bare minimum.

islam wasn't the first religion to give women rights. women have always had rights inherently just by being human.

@julsgars810 @bilbosfootcomb @Seymour_Lolis New Atheism has been the most dominant brand of atheism that has, for so long, only served to dehumanize primarily Muslims in order to manufacture consent for imperialism, and that now contributes to today’s rampant anti-immigrant rhetoric. who gives a fuck about the semantics??

@r281s_ @Xjeel19 @luffvmz let's assume that you're life is truly perfect, do you not feel empathy with the exploited and downtrodden of the world, facilitated in part by your ruling class (and mine)? what about migrant workers? what about your foreign policy? and the women? and, and, and?

@r281s_ @Xjeel19 @luffvmz this is what i mean when i call you an unquestioning slave. i may not have as much power as the ruling class (the wealthy), but the difference between us is that i believe the exploiters and oppressors should be dethroned & political/economic power should be equal among people.

@r281s_ @Xjeel19 @luffvmz i think if you're told something repetitively, and everyone around you unquestioningly trusts it, it becomes harder to question things simply because that's what you're used to. this is your version of the divine right of kings--it's meant to keep you passive against wrongdoing.
