Filtering scRNA-seq data based on arbitrary UMI thresholds can lead to loss of cells with low expression. We tackle this problem of threshold optimation in our latest work. Great job @IsaacB76404445, congrats on your first paper!

@srikosuri Perhaps, 1. Students get a chance to rotate in industry and make an informed choice about their career paths (personally would’ve loved that option in grad school) 2. Application oriented research w/ assured funding 3. Better scrutiny of industrial research via peer review

Letting grad students do their PhD work in for profit companies is such a terrible idea and can lead to so many potential conflicts of interest, I can’t even imagine the thought processes that went into it. I’m ashamed this is coming from a UC.
