@sampson_dog I am honored & proud to be part of this legacy that I first started to watch unfold on Twitter. The formation of the 501(c)(3) Non-Profit in 2025 accomplishes a means to honor Sampson & my son's memory & fulfill his dreams of helping others too. Best! Charity! Ever!

We are proud to announce the Spring 2026 Sampsons Legacy Foundation Scholarship Award winners! Ann Payyappilly: Sampsons Legacy Foundation Outstanding Scholar $1000 Grace Armijo: Sampsons Legacy Foundation Academic Excellence $500, as well as the Science Service Dog Scholarship $500. Ann Elizabeth Payyappilly is an incoming Doctor of Physical Therapy student at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, where she will begin her studies in May 2026. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Maryland, College Park, and has accumulated over 2,000 clinical hours as a physical therapy technician across acute care, subacute rehabilitation, and outpatient orthopedic settings. Through these experiences, she has developed a strong foundation in patient care, interdisciplinary collaboration, and evidence-based practice. Grace Armijo is a freshman, attending Southeastern Illinois College in the Pharmacy Technician Preparation program. She is at the top of her class, with a 4.0 GPA. She re-entered school for the first time in two decades and is ready to make a difference in her life, while helping others to feel better from what illness may be holding them back. The pharmacy technician field has a great need for more people currently, and it is vital for the healthcare system. Grace plans to also add phlebotomy and other classes after this semester to add additional skills for the pharmacy or hospital she works for in the future. Congratulations to this years Scholarship recipients!

Back to work and back to the reality of an advocate for people with disabilities. Disability advocacy means late-night calls and frantic emails before exams—it truly never stops. And I’m often the one on the other end of those calls. Federal ADA law DOES override conflicting state laws, policies, and guidelines. We wish we could simply rely on the argument that the ADA overrides institutional policy. In practice, that is not what happens. The problem isn’t whether the ADA applies—it does. The problem is a policy gap. Biosafety frameworks assumed “no animals,” while disability law mandates service animal access. Labs were never formally harmonized. Doing the advocating—closing that gap in real time—is the draining part. But equal access doesn’t enforce itself. We do. Even sick, injured, or healing. A disability advocates job is never truly complete.

@sampson_dog The wordless bonds they share with each other reminds me of my two "kids" - unconditional love for us and each other! Missing them always ...

A visit to the Neurologist today for Mom. Traumatic brain injuries continue throughout a persons lifetime. Mom has started losing feeling in her arms and fingers. Paws crossed all is well.

we achieve financially. At the end of the day, success isn't measured by achievements & awards but by who you were as a person. What kindness you showed, what impact you made on other people's lives. The fact that you made a difference in this world if only to one person.

Today marks 2 years since my son died from cancer. While my heart is filled with extreme sadness, I cling to the joy he brought me for 40 years & relish the memories we made together. What we do with our lives & how we live them is so much more important than what we have or what
