Everyone starts writing a paper with the Methods, right? I'm having a writing day and my family (who clearly need to go out and do something more interesting) think it is weird because by definition a paper should start with the Intro/Background.

@adamkvonende The easy win is definitely part of it. It somehow is less awful when you aren't looking at a blank page anymore!

If meandering and eating cake were an Olympic sport, I might do rather well. As it is not, I shall settle in now and watch other people do rather impressive things in fields I only vaguely understand.

The last few days, apart from attempting to dig myself out of my inbox after a week away, I have mainly been talking to people about new research ideas and eating lemon drizzle cake. It has been lovely. Here is a picture of Salem looking as pleased as I feel.

@dclovesgp 😊 Do you also find that when you are tired and a bit stressed at work, you imagine how lovely it would be to sit on a beach and just relax? And then when that time finally comes you manage about an hour before getting twitchy and setting off to explore!

Turns out I'm constitutionally incapable of sitting still for too long so a beach holiday was possibly not a great idea. Luckily, there are some cliffs and ruins and other rather nice things to explore.

The children agreed to one and only one day of visiting churches and cathedrals. But it was rather splendid and I think they've been talked round to a second day!

This trial was delivered by a simply fantastic team, adapting where necessary and expertly managing a huge scale up. Thank you! Really important findings, easy to implement, likely to reduce the impact of respiratory infections.

Increasingly, I'm finding all day meetings online, like funding panels, conferences etc, give me the worst headache by mid afternoon. Anyone experienced the same and got any good tips (apart from tea and paracetamol)?

@dclovesgp I have been meaning to cut back on caffeine. I've not yet found a believable decaf but I haven't tried Yorkshire so maybe there is hope!
