This 13-year-old girl was sent away from home with hope, hope for education, a better future, and safety in the arms of “family.” Instead, she endured years of unimaginable abuse that shattered her body, left her with vesicovaginal fistula (VVF), and eventually took her life in October 2018. Her uncle Andrew Ogbuja was acquitted. Her cousin Victor Ogbuja has been a fugitive for over seven years now, with reports he has been living openly in Lagos. Yet there is still no sustained public manhunt, no fresh wanted notice, and no clear update from the authorities. The silence from @BenuePoliceNG and @benuestategovt is deafening. Every day it continues is another day we tell Nigerian parents that sending their daughters to relatives for schooling comes with unbearable risk.
