I agree AI makes already-smart analysts more efficient. What are you doing with the extra time saved- not asking re: leisure but specifically what are new areas at work you're able to explore? Are you able to cover more/new names? Feel that is not easy to do at top firms.

there are very ppl on the planet who can articulate as cleanly as this. but to expand a little bit more in pure economic terms.. what changed is the opportunity cost structure. historically solitude was punishing as hell cuz of economic precarity, social stigma, & sheer boredom. the threshold was always love preferred but penalty for singlehood is massive. now the penalty is near zero or actually inverted.. solo life is genuinely pleasurable for women with traveling etc, status neutral again esp for women, & economically viable again for women now. so even if love supply is constant, demand side clearing price collapsed because the outside option improved dramatically. e.g. relationships became completely optional. give me 6'5 blue eyes or nothing at all. & as far as population is concerned to give you an idea without immigration the us would already look like japan demographically. median age would probably be mid 40s, there would be workforce shrinkage, & the whole deflationary doom loop on top of it all. the united states population would be 250-260M. native born fertility has been sub replacement since the 70s, so you'd have had ~50 years of slow demographic erosion. this will likely be the case regardless of immigration at some point in the near future.
LindyMan@PaulSkallas

why is population dropping? Because there are less babies why are there less babies? because there are less couples why are there less couples? because now we demand a much higher threshold for coupling up. Love is the minimum threshold for coupling up or else people (women) will prefer to stay alone the problem is love is rare. it always has been.

Creativity and invention are a direct output of increased intelligence. Demand for intelligence is unlimited because the demand for new invention is only bounded by the complete saturation of human dopamine circuits and humans will colonize galaxies long before that happens. As long as there is a single human who is curious enough to wonder if there is life in Alpha Centauri there will be demand for more invention. And because AI abundance will likely result in an explosion of human population - first because of longevity and then because bored rich humans have lots of kids when there is no monetary or social cost - the pace of incremental human-driven curiosity will be explosive as well.

A new shot literally regrows knee cartilage. Researchers at Stanford Medicine have identified a novel strategy to regenerate articular cartilage in knees and potentially prevent or treat osteoarthritis (OA). The method targets 15-hydroxyprostaglandin dehydrogenase (15-PGDH), an age-related enzyme—or "gerozyme"—that accumulates in aging tissues and drives degeneration. In aged mice, small-molecule inhibitors of 15-PGDH, delivered systemically or via intra-articular injection, promoted cartilage thickening and regeneration of functional hyaline articular cartilage. This occurred without recruiting stem or progenitor cells; instead, existing chondrocytes underwent transcriptional reprogramming to a youthful state, with reduced populations of inflammatory and hypertrophic/degradative cells and expanded matrix-producing articular chondrocytes. The inhibitors also reversed natural age-related cartilage thinning, improved joint function, and—when administered after simulated ACL injuries—strongly mitigated post-traumatic OA progression and associated pain. Human OA cartilage explants from total knee replacements responded similarly in vitro, showing decreased degradation markers and evidence of new articular cartilage formation. Given that an oral 15-PGDH inhibitor has already completed Phase 1 safety trials for age-related muscle atrophy, the findings open a path toward disease-modifying, regenerative therapies that could delay or obviate the need for joint replacement surgery. [Agarwal, P., Su, S., Ancel, S., et al. (2025). Inhibition of 15-hydroxy prostaglandin dehydrogenase promotes cartilage regeneration. Science. DOI: 10.1126/science.adx6649]

"You need to learn all these esoteric AI skills IMMEDIATELY or else blah blah permanent underclass" This is completely retarded Every "AI skill" people have learned over the last 3 years has been obsoleted 3 months later when a new model comes out Remember 'ultrathink?' Chain-of-thought prompting? Goofy roleplay prompts? ("You are a genius software developer. Please oneshot this for me") Heavy few-shot prompting? Context engineering? This is just going to keep happening There are several hundred-billion-dollar companies whos job is to make this shit so easy to use that your mom could figure it out on her cellphone That esoteric memory management system you built? It will be completely obsoleted in 6 months by a native version that's way better The only "AI skills" that have been consistently useful this entire time are just "having good ideas" and "being able to communicate them clearly" If you cannot do those things, then yah, you're going to be just as bad at AI as you were at everything else
_gabrielShapir0@lex_node

I'm increasingly sensing that "people who get really good at AI will survive & thrive" is likely a cope It doesn't require much skill, obviously it will also require less & less skill...I don't think any 'edge' you have today as a mere AI 'power user' will last long...

What's been working *really* well while working in Claude Code is chatting in parallel with Claude or ChatGPT and using them as "architects" and prompt engineers. Leads to noticeably better outcomes and fewer mistakes and redos.
