On the eve of the #LynamCup, stars are out in force backing @bowieclone and @RogerDrury to win. A victory is long overdue hence broadcasting LEGEND @tommoracing seemingly forgetting our three previous victories in the event. Thanks for your support Tommo it means the world to us!

I’m watching this Arsenal Chelsea women’s game here and I swear on my life I have just seen the absolute worst ref/var call ever, I don’t think anything has come close

Look at those fences in the 1973 Grand National. Crisp out in front ridden by Richard Pitman just gets caught by Red Rum under Brian Fletcher. A different race back then!

@anon_opin Or just leave them in and display the caption "nonce" whenever they are on screen. On a more serious note, refusing to play these is denying artists royalties they could be earning.

@timstillman_ Trossard and Califiori were both first choice earlier in the season when they were both in excellent form so I'm not sure why he would think that. I suspect Hincapie's inclusion is more to do with his form and the extra defensive attributes he potentially posesses.

Around the edges I don’t think Arteta likes playing Trossard and Calafiori together but both raise technical level compared to players they compete with in their positions.

What yesterday showed was that, without Odegaard in particular, technical level not high enough at Arsenal. (Missing Odegaard, Eze and Merino for the same position proved to be a bridge too far too). History tells us Arteta sees issues and, if anything, over corrects in the market. Strongly suspect technique on the ball in small spaces will be a very big priority in the summer.

@afcDW Agreed but we shouldn't be relying on our left back to break a team down

I like Hincapié and I don’t think he was bad defensively, but it’s just so obvious that if we need to break a team down we have to play Calafiori. Should’ve come on at half-time, given the yellow.

@GazBainbridge "In their own half" is the interesting bit. Surely half of them are in the opposition half and so it shouldn't be allowed.

So while the teams are lining up, I would say the most appropriate place for a ref to stand is in the middle of the pitch waiting to see who is taking KO. Chelsea can huddle anywhere else in their own half, but they chose to do it there. They’re the weirdos in this.
Match of the Day@BBCMOTD

“It makes a farce of the whole thing.” 😬 Ashley Williams and Joe Hart do not understand Paul Tierney’s decision to stand in the middle of Chelsea’s huddle.

The camera man showed the Bernando challenge for 2 seconds quick to avoid controversy for the ref. It was a terrible tackle and shown only for 2 seconds on 1 angle only.

@sidlowe @honigstein I think your overreaction to the original decision has led you down a VAR rabbit hole. I'm anti VAR myself but this is not the decision to call it out on. This is a subjective call by the on-field ref and VAR correctly left it at that.

This is true. But I also think it misses the (my) point, which I make constantly. The very existence of VAR changes the dynamics: greater inclination to give fouls, greater inclination to look for them, etc, a system and culture that tends to the magnification of the minor. And then (weirdly considering it is, by definition, interventionist) sits out in moments when it could(should?) step in. And this penalty, while not a VAR decision is, I think, part of that culture we have created. As I always, always say, however much people jump and judge according to their team, in my opinion it's a conceptual/cultural issue and it is going in a bad direction.

Oh my word. I know, I know, I’m late. But I have just seen Arsenal’s penalty from last night… again, said a million times, the great hope of VAR is the great disappointment: it hasn’t eradicated dives, it has encouraged them

@JohnPFrew @Billybingbong2 @Suffragent_ I'm inclined to agree. Just hearing the recordings of the police interviews where they told her he had been charged and laying out the evidence to her and hearing her genuine disbelief and blindness to his involvement convinced me that she believed everything Huntley told her.

@Billybingbong2 @Suffragent_ That’s your point of view and I respect that . I lived and worked locally at the time of this tragedy so I wasn’t seeking to trivialise this outrage . I simply think the judge got it right regarding Carrs sentencing . Enjoy your weekend Billy

Did you know? Ian Huntley's accomplice — Maxine Carr — only spent 21months in prison for her part in the Soham murders. She was released just HALFWAY through her sentence, then given lifelong anonymity and a new identity at taxpayer's expense. 🇬🇧

@baizewatch @romfordslim1477 Agreed, although I note he beat Tony Knowles in the final qualifying round and a couple of others before that who I have never heard of. I have a fondness for the 1989 Irish Masters triumph where he beat Hendry who himself was on the verge of greatness. A fantastic last hurrah.

@romfordslim1477 The WPBSA and most people in the game would have thought that was last they'd seen of Alex. Qualifying for the WC and UK in 94 was a remarkable achievement by him, considering the standard of the new breed of players. It was two fingers up to the authorities as well as I saw it.

@N5toN7r @PeakSxnti I guess some fans didn't like the way he "forced" his move to Barca but it was pretty small fry compared to someone like Isak's antics. I was more annoyed with the club for accepting such a small free for someone who was clearly a generational talent & for not buying him back.

@bowieclone @PeakSxnti Forgiveness or not doesn’t change how good he was. Are we more upset about how he went to Barca or the fact he then went to Chelsea? It was hard for him to say no to Barca tbf especially 2011. Yes he was a pleasure to watch as a footballer, a pleasure to watch as a leader.
