Blocked for hours because the state was performing a sashtanga pranam at the altar of appeasement. Today, that same state has placed the guiding light of Yoga on the mat. This isn't about Hindu and Muslim. This is about breathing in equity, inclusiveness. A prayer mat belongs to only those who pray upon it. A yoga mat has place for any posture willing to step on it.

A historical footnote that often gets lost in contemporary politics:
The road long known as Suhrawardy Avenue in Kolkata was not named after Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy or HS Suhrawardy, the Bengal Premier associated in public memory with the series of tragic and communal events of โDirect Action Dayโ in 1946. He was later called as the โButcher of Bengalโ.
The road was named after his uncle ( mama) , Sir Dr. Hassan Suhrawardyโa distinguished surgeon, academic, Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, and the first Muslim Vice-Chancellor of Calcutta University.
The Calcutta Municipal Corporation named the avenue in April 1933, during Sir Hassanโs tenure as Vice-Chancellor. His family residence, Kashana, stood on the very road that bore his name. He was knighted in 1932 and later renounced the title in 1946.
With the Kolkata Municipal Corporation now renaming the road as Gopal Mukherjee Road in honour of โGopal Pathaโ, a different chapter of Bengalโs history is being commemorated.
But whatever oneโs view of the renaming, the historical record is clear โ- Suhrawardy Avenue was originally named after Sir Hassan Suhrawardy, not H.S. Suhrawardy ( Butcher of Bengal).

It's hard to believe that this md c got a 13yo boy sentenced to life imprisonment just because he was seen carrying a BJP flag.
That boy is now 25 years old and has finally been released after spending 12 years in prison.
