@shoewizard59 While having McCann qualify as a two-way player might be vaguely amusing, currently at 3 IP he would need 17 more, it would likely mean the Diamondbacks had played far too many hopelessly lost games for a good season outcome, as you suggest.

@shoewizard59 Essentially two batting orders in one right now, with Gurriel and whoever is eigth or ninth at their respective bottoms to avoid two duds in a row. The rub is returning players later in the season will have to take time to get going too, meaning having to hang on even longer.

Lourdes Gurriel Jr. 1 for 21 to start his season. Merrill Kelly has an ERA over 9 It often takes time for injured players to get going again. Keep that in mind while the D-backs continue to count on "hanging on" until the rest of their injured players return.

@shoewizard59 There are some parallels. Both promising, and then some uncertainty. Moreno keeps having to go to the IL, unfortunately. People adore him though so far still.

@carboncreation He was one of MY favorites..but a lot of fans really hated on him in 2023, unjustifiably so. They were complaining why Torey was playing him and not Gabi, not realizing Gabi had a shoulder injury which eventually sent him to the DL

Vargas' .405 BA, 1.085 OPS and percentile ranks are incredible so far, but .452 BABIP (.272 career) might suggest not sustainable. Also poor chase rate and BB%. Great if it lasts though.
