The SNPs Scottish Youth Parliament’s nightmare exposed: A decade of shielding sex abusers and paedophiles at the heart of Scotland’s youth voice. Jordan Linden former chair of the Scottish Youth Parliament (SYP) and rising SNP star was just convicted of 10 sex offences against young people including teenagers as young as 14 who were involved in the SYP and SNP youth activities. His victims were SYP participants and young activists. Complaints and investigations into his behaviour date back to at least 2016 over 10 years ago. SNP leadership including then CEO Peter Murrell was personally informed of the probe into Linden at the SYP yet he was allowed to continue to rise to council leader and keep preying on young people connected to the organisation. Even worse the SYP’s own external legal adviser lawyer Alan Eccles was a convicted paedophile who engaged in online chats about child sexual abuse and shared indecent images of children. He advised the SYP executive and board right up until late 2023 while the youth parliament was already facing accusations of ignoring complaints about Linden. Despite his conviction Eccles is still allowed to practise as a solicitor. Then there’s Tracy Carragher the senior SNP councillor and former defence witness for Linden who downplayed complaints linked to the SYP scandal. She was only suspended and ditched as a Holyrood candidate last week long after the damage was done. Questions that demand answers: Why did the SNP and those running the Scottish Youth Parliament know about Linden’s alleged abuse for over 10 years yet protect and promote him instead of protecting the young people in the SYP? Why was a convicted paedophile lawyer like Alan Eccles giving legal advice to the Scottish Youth Parliament and why is he still practising today? Why does it take a full criminal conviction and public outrage before anyone is held accountable or kicked out? Why did senior SNP figures defend or delay action on complaints coming out of the SYP? Is there something rotten at the heart of the SNP the Scottish Youth Parliament and Scottish politics? Young people trusted the SYP as their voice. Instead it became a hunting ground while leadership looked the other way for a decade. Scotland’s youth deserve protection not cover ups.
