Almost everyone is surprised by what's happening because they don't understand how the Big Cycle driven by the 5-Big Forces have worked through history and are working now. The important thing is that you understand this.

The contrast is interesting: Ukraine = “too many people dying, this has to stop.” Venezuela = “America will control the transition.” Different conflicts. Very different playbooks.

He also admitted he thought this would be an easier conflict to solve, and that it hasn’t been.

Trump was asked if he’s mad at Vladimir Putin — and he said yes. “He’s killing too many people.” That’s one of the strongest condemnations we’ve heard from him.

From a market perspective, this actually adds uncertainty. No clear successor = • Longer transition • Higher political risk premium • Slower normalization for oil

Translation: removing Maduro is one thing. Finding someone with real domestic buy-in is another — and Trump’s not convinced that box is checked yet.

Trump just addressed María Corina Machado — and he was pretty blunt. He said she doesn’t have enough support inside the country to realistically lead Venezuela right now

This is no longer just about removing Maduro. It’s about who fills the power vacuum — and Trump is saying the U.S. will, at least at first. That’s a different level of commitment.

He explicitly said America controls the transition to make sure “bad people don’t take over after Nicolás Maduro.”

Trump just got asked who runs Venezuela — and his answer was pretty blunt. “America will control the country in the transition.” That’s a huge statement

The “we built their industry and they took everything” line stood out to me. That frames Venezuela less as a foreign crisis and more like a failed asset that needs to be restructured.

This wasn’t framed as a short op or a quick hit. He talked about running the country properly, reimbursing people, and rebuilding industry.

Trump just got asked about boots on the ground — and he didn’t dodge it at all. “We’re not afraid of it… we’re there now and ready to go again if we have to.” That’s a big escalation signal, whether people want to admit it or not.

Regime change? Makes sense. Energy + regional power? Makes sense. Monroe Doctrine signaling? Definitely makes sense. Drugs & gangs? …I ain’t buying it.

Even the whole Cartel de los Soles angle is more about corruption and letting things happen… Not Venezuela being a main drug exporter to the U.S.

Yes, groups like Tren de Aragua exist — but compared to the major cartel networks? Their footprint in the U.S. is pretty small.

If we’re being real, most drugs hitting the U.S. aren’t coming from Venezuela. Cocaine = Colombia/Peru. Fentanyl = Mexico. That part of the supply chain matters.

Most hard narcotics hitting the U.S. don’t originate in Venezuela. Cocaine production is primarily Colombia/Peru, and fentanyl flows are overwhelmingly tied to Mexico — not Caracas.

Potential market impacts from Trump’s Venezuela speech & actions — FX (Currencies) • USD: Short-term strength on geopolitical risk + safe-haven flows • LATAM FX: Pressure on regional currencies (esp. Colombia, Brazil) on spillover risk Oil / Energy • Oil bias: bullish — Venezuela disruption + sanctions risk = tighter supply • Even limited production loss matters in an already tight global market

Bottom line: Trump framed the action as national security + anti-narco enforcement + anti-corruption + long-standing U.S. doctrine.

Trump’s Venezuela speech — key reasons he cited for the strike & capture of Nicolás Maduro: • Regime change Maduro’s government framed as illegitimate, authoritarian, and a regional destabilizer. • Drugs & gang trafficking Claims that Venezuela functions as a narco-state, tied to cocaine routes and criminal groups like Tren de Aragua. • State-level corruption Allegations that military and political elites operate criminal networks, often linked to the Cartel de los Soles. • Hemispheric dominance Explicit reference to the Monroe Doctrine — signaling U.S. red lines against hostile regimes in the Western Hemisphere.
