I've had the chance to interview the former Deputy Secretary of the Treasury Wally Adeyemo many times (recently with @rSanti97!) and he framed Direct File as a (1) way for Americans to not have to pay for filing their taxes (like most other countries) and (2) a way to show people the government can work for them. Unfortunate decision to kill it.

👀 Scoop: IRS Direct File, the free government-backed program that let you file your taxes for free, is dead. IRS wrote to state tax agencies saying it would not be operational this coming tax season, per records I've obtained. IRS Direct File: 2023-2025.

This is why “trad” influencers/media are entirely fraudulent. I can’t think of anything less traditional than turning the most private thing (your interaction with family, your children) into content for internet voyeurs.

The video of this incident is just as bad as it sounds. The priest is standing there, not doing anything remotely illegal, and without warning a masked DHS agent on the roof shoots him in the top of his head with a pepper ball.
