@Blue_Footy Fun fact, the Alonso all of you are twerking for is not as tactically brilliant as Meresca. Noticed how he never abandoned his structure and ideology but still created solutions for the PSG game..

What Maresca did was use Enrique's playbook against him. He forced Enrique to concede the numerical advantage they usually enjoy. This is what he did: Enrique loves to attack with both FBs, Maresca identified Mendes as an easier target pin, and focused on doubling up on him with Gusto and Palmer, of course Gusto's defensive duties shifted to James who started as a midfielder. Mendes couldn't attack, as Chelsea had Gusto and Palmer on his side, and Palmer was watched by Beraldo and Ruiz as PSG tried to mitigate Chelseaโ€™s numerical advantage. The point is that Maresca managed to force a man-marking all over the pitch, because the same thing was happening on Chelseaโ€™s left with Cucurella and Neto but not to much because Chelseaโ€™s choice of ball progression was the right, which means Cucurella didn't need to attack at the same time as Gusto. Chelsea made 48 long ball attempts in this game. They kept stretching PSG with direct balls and kept forcing them to commit bodies to defend and could build any attacking overload. Ruiz was taken out of the game as he kept dropping deep to mark Palmer while Gusto was on Mendes. When Ruiz attempted to attack Beraldo took over but they were pulled apart and Chelsea exploited the spaces. In my opinion, that's how Maresca used their playbook against them. Both chess masters clashed but Maresca came out on top.
Vinceโ„ข@Blue_Footy

How Enrique's PSG attack is similar to how Klopp's Liverpool, with Firmino, Mane, and Salah, attacked. Like Klopp, Enrique leaves his wingers up and defends with the defenders, midfielders, and the striker, who drops into the midfield. The wingers, staying up and wide, means the opponent's full-backs won't attack them carelessly, and if one of them does, the central defense will be stretched, allowing the wingers to use diagonal runs to attack the central space. It's an intentional positioning of wingers out of possession, and it causes a lot of teams problems on the counter. It also means that, for you to defend it properly, you must leave the FBs behind, which gives PSG a numerical advantage when you attack since you can't push up your CBs. It's like you have to defend 4v2 and attack 6v8, essentially rendering two players useless. Just very difficult to counter. That's where the 'game of chess' comes into football. ๐Ÿค”

@CFC_OBED we donโ€™t want a coach that plays running football, cos we donโ€™t have the players for it. we saw it with poch, we also saw it with rosenior. youโ€™re free to employ the coach, but sign players thatโ€™d run for him. if you donโ€™t sign players thatโ€™d run for him, youโ€™ll sack him

Chelsea fans will be telling you that they donโ€™t want a coach that plays running football Look at psg , look at Bayern , they can put the ball down , play all the possession yet they run . No lazy player on the pitch . Letโ€™s keep babysitting these average players

@Blue_Footy Most of you here are just pure hypocrites. Why do you think Cesc with just two seasons senior coaching experience is better than Adoni and Silva who have years of coaching in the EPL, By the way I am not in support of either choices.

Alonso or Fabregas are the kind of managers I would like us to give the keys to Chelsea and not look back. There is no way they will fail with this squad if they are given the necessary support.

Another thing about Iraola at Bournemouth that people overlook is lack of consistency over the season. Since he's been there, every season, they go on a poor run of 5-7 games and recover, at times twice a season. It's due to fatigue and they haven't played in Europe. Imagine adding that to midweek games. Another one of his downside is that he doesn't mix possession with versatility like Fabregas, it's just pure verticality. Post to post stuff, players don't have time to catch their breathe. It also explains why they throw away leads a lot as fatigue set-in toward the end of games. I don't think that his style fits a big club that plays a lot of games in one season even if you have fit runners. But in our case we don't even have enough runners. It won't be easy if he's hired.

But Iโ€™m curious oh , everyone here keeps saying Iraola is not a good fit for Chelsea , why ? They say his team runs runs runs but if you look at the statistics for this season , Chelsea has been outrun by almost every team . I want to get something. He doesnโ€™t fit based on tactics or just the fact that his team runs a lot ?

@MobyChe Watching the game today made me realise one thing: it will take a big Aura and convincing for the players to change from the Meresca they have come to believe it the sure way to win if the bring their A game

So watching this game, 2 things are clear. We are a good team. We need a good manager and a solid direction. We don't need to change styles of play. We need a leader manager and tactician and the 2-3 additions. 1v1 winger. Another CAM and at least 1 CB. that's what I wanted to say after the game not during.

@cjerer3 @MobyChe Because context matters. He didn't fail at madrid. Madrid is sort of like a poisoned chalice. Egos, individuals playing for themselves meant he'd find it hard to succeed. Even Ancelotti did after some time

Seems the fanbase have just decided unanimously that Xabi Alonso is who they want. I know because lots of fans want him, some will definitely be edgy for the sake of it but it makes total sense. Possession based team that should still run off the ball (people think we won't run off the ball lmao). A coach that uses the ball to control the game as well as off the ball. They had the best defence in the Bundesliga and 2nd best attack with Bayern obviously having the best players, best Goal Difference. He maximized his attacking talents and created a well drilled team that dominated Bayern in their encounters. Tuchel's Bayern, won them 3-0. Didn't lose to Bayern all season as well. The only manager to achieve winning the Bundesliga instead of Bayern apart from Dortmund in the past 16 years.

@eezy_cfc Yes, I have followed this club for so long that I saw where Lampard and JT were controlling this club even when Benitaz was hated among the players. It was the badge not the coach, the funny thing is the dude was allowed to wear the captain band again after twerking for Madrid

@Blue_Footy @FabrizioRomano Someone should tell these weak ass players that the Chelsea culture is to hire and fire underperforming coaches. The only thing lost is the fact the owners don't go inside the dressing room to give them a talk down, because why will a so call captain talk about another club
