I agree we need to create a better system, but you would also understand the importance of collective responsibility. The litter thatโ€™s on the streets today, it is not Tokunbo Wahab that dropped it there, it is we the residents. 6:30am to 8:30am is not even so much to be termed a lockdown because realistically how many people are productive during these hours on a Saturday. Once a month. We the residents need to take ownership of our surrounding, and when weโ€™re seemingly in charge of the clean up, this could reduce the tendency to even continue the cycle. We are not there yet, but we can start from somewhere.

Shutting down a city of 20 million people to clean their immediate environment is parochial and lacks imagination. For emphasis: the issue is not so much about cleaning your environment (which is great) but the logistics of waste management - starting from the collection, to disposal and recycling. Anything short of rethinking this system is cosmetic and unimaginative.
