Sterling K Brown in “Is God Is” is my first guaranteed entry on my 2026 Best Film Performances list. He and Aleshea Harris mold the Randall Pearson screen persona into a putrid, terrifying portrait of an unrepentant sociopath. I screamed twice because of him. Spine-chilling work.

Beloved is a difficult book because the subject matter is difficult, and Morrison engaged some quintessential modernist techniques to reinforce that. If something seems a little hard to follow, it is NOT because Morrison isn't a clear writer. Those sentences are all perfect
