Two days ago we spent the night filming the last paroxysm of #Etna. Great experience and a lot of high speed and thermal images of the lava fountain and of the strombolian activity. @hphtlab @INGVvulcani @ingv_president

In honour of @dread_rocks defending his PhD, here is some footage of him at work in the early days when he was still young and hadn’t yet seen 3 months worth of eruptions (or processed those 3 months worth of data!).

#7DaysOfFieldwork (5): Helping @dread_rocks set up his PhD fieldwork, a 3-month monitoring of the steady-state Strombolian volcanism at Yasur volcano (Vanuatu). Burying seismometers, setting up thermal cameras, observing hundreds of eruptions, taming adorable tiny cats.

Soon to be crowned Dr ⁦@Tyranakisaurus⁩ stands proudly above a couple of his peers, the under examination ⁦@dread_rocks⁩ and the furiously writing ⁦@emily1ash⁩

@Tyranakisaurus Good ol' bench 3... I literally spent hundreds of hours up there. I think my butt-groove is still imprinted into the concrete!

@dread_rocks I can still call to mind the little *pap* *pap* *pap* sounds of bombs thudding all around while we called out colors and numbers from the observation bench.
