@dynesius_ @vitrupo In Harari’s view, AI improving on its own isn't a sign of progress, but a loss of control. AI is an agent (not just a tool) that lacks a moral compass. Our lack of consensus will hinder us to stop it. So, how to instill the moral compass?
English

@1goodtern Sounds like he and usa is embracing the idea of a modern 'holy war' - crusade. "It's good if we are the ones doing it"
English

@Graham_dePenros It's impossible to operate society through a chicken-race dynamic when power grows in technology. Extinction and armageddon tech need to be resisted globally.
The question is not 'if', but instead how.
English

In 1899, Ivan Stanislavovich Bloch published "Is War Now Impossible? Being An Abridgment Of The War Of The Future In Its Technical, Economic, And Political Relations" warning that industrialized warfare would make traditional combat catastrophic and unsustainable.
He was right. He essentially predicted the 8.5 million combat deaths in World War I. May God bless them all.
In 2026, Project Maven's product Maven Smart System (MSS) is embedded in all branches of the US Military and late last year was adopted by NATO.
A further ten countries are on the waiting list to deploy MSS.
Using AI and ML technology MSS completely changes the rules of engagement and the act of warfare at a scale Bloch could never have imagined, his contemporaries were agog at the nascent fields of electricity and cinematography.
AI-driven military operations are here and they are here to stay, in the same year that the EU AI Act bans them, member nations' governments of the EU are deploying MSS in their national military.
A new generation of thinkers and strategists is coming. The question is whether we will heed the Oppenheimer lesson or press on regardless.
I think we all know the answer to that. If you are wondering what that is, it is that we are doomed to press on regardless because everyone who considers themselves our enemy will be doing so.
The ubiquitous Catch-22.

@dynesius_ @r_hellqvist @Kastanjebaren @Aftonbladet Men OJ? Vilken upptäckt, liksom? Efter sex år, redan? Swärjeh ligger i framkant!!

BA.3.2, a highly mutated new SARS-CoV-2 variant, is currently circulating in at least 23 countries.
BA.3 nearly disappeared in 2022, and since then most of the dominant SARS-CoV-2 variants descended from JN.1.
This implies that BA.3.2 re-emerged after significant evolution through heavy mutations in immunocompromised individuals over several years.
Accordingly, BA.3.2 is better able to escape immunity from vaccines or prior infections, and this new variant is spreading faster than published data indicate, although no one cares.

Svenska

@DrEricDing It's irresponaible & absolute insanity. We need something like an AI IAEA, regulation & democratic discussion globally to not lose control of nukes to blackbox AI.
English

@tegmark Agree. PR is desperately needed to avoid regulation. Especially since the DoW war & surveillance controversy. GenAI is not popular, and in my opinion, rightly so.
English

The race to superintelligence is IMHO mainly motivated by money and power, not by a plan to cure cancer – which can be better tackled with powerful tool AI:
Future of Life Institute@FLI_org
"Phase 1: Develop superintelligence. Phase 2: ????? Phase 3: Cure cancer, solve climate change, universal education." @Emilia_Javorsky unpacks why superintelligence is NOT the magical solution to all of our problems, contrary to AI companies' claims:
English

@1goodtern No, it's most likely an anticipatory chessboard move.
Ppl want peace & human flourishing & think AI in war & surveillance is probably the opposite.
So it's about preemptively strike down on opposition with narrative before it has formed.
English

@joni_askola This particular type of claims seem to become common. Its very similar to the pandemic denialism in Sweden. The natural position to a new dangerous thing is to protect oneself & others.
What Sweden did was to say "protection is dangerous & exposure is good".
English

When evaluating the #morals of the distant past, like from the medieval or antiquity – we look at them as rigid and dogmatic. That is probably true. Yet we forget that tech & culture didn't change as fast as now – making their morals at the time *seem* to be timeless.
