Five suspects, including a KDF soldier, have been released on bail over an alleged attempted robbery targeting the home of a senior Kenya Defence Forces officer in Kitengela. The suspects, Charles Kipo Matata, David Ng'aa Mwangangi, Alex Mumo Kisilu, Richard Mwania Muasya and Stella Nzuki Mweni , appeared before Milimani Trial Magistrate Teresa Nyangena where they denied two charges: conspiracy to commit a felony and preparation to commit a felony. According to the charge sheet, the five allegedly conspired between March 18 and March 25 with others not before court to break into the home of George Okumu Opondo at Acacia Paradise Estate in Kitengela. Prosecutors told the court that on March 25 the suspects were found with items described as dangerous weapons, including a crowbar, claw hammer, knife and pliers, in circumstances suggesting they intended to commit housebreaking. Each suspect was released on a cash bail of Sh500,000 or an alternative bond of Sh1 million. The case will be mentioned on April 21, 2026 for pre-trial directions.

KRA says it has collected Ksh 2.038 trillion in revenue as of March 31, 2026. The tax agency had targeted Ksh 2.122 trillion for the July 2025 to March 2026 period, meaning it reached 96.1% of the target. Even though the goal was not fully met, collections are higher than the Ksh 1.829 trillion recorded during the same period in the previous financial year, marking an 11.4% increase. Domestic taxes remained the biggest source of revenue, bringing in Ksh 1.301 trillion, a 10.4% rise compared to last year. Customs and border control collections performed above target, reaching Ksh 733.7 billion, a 13.3% increase. Out of the total collections, Ksh 1.834 trillion went to the exchequer while Ksh 204.452 billion was collected on behalf of other government agencies. KRA says the growth was supported by better tax administration, digital systems such as eTIMS, GavaConnect, WhatsApp tax services, USSD services, and expanded use of bank agents. The agency says it will intensify compliance efforts in the last quarter of the financial year as it works toward its full-year target of Ksh 2.97 trillion.

KICD has asked principals of all public senior schools to submit updated Grade 10 enrolment data as it prepares for the next phase of textbook distribution. The institute says the first phase of distributing Grade 10 textbooks is complete, but there are still gaps. Some schools received more books than needed, while others have not received any. KICD says the mismatch happened because the enrolment data initially provided by the Ministry of Education did not fully reflect the actual number of students and their subject choices in different schools. Principals are now required to submit two key details: the current number of Grade 10 students per subject and the number of textbooks that were supplied in the first phase. The information will guide the second phase of distribution to ensure each learner gets their own textbook for every subject, in line with the government’s one-to-one textbook policy. Under the Competency-Based Curriculum, senior school students take different subject combinations, which makes accurate subject-by-subject data necessary for fair distribution. Schools that have not received books or those with excess copies have been asked to report the issue to KICD before April 10, 2026. KICD CEO Charles Ong’ondo said the data collected will also help plan textbook distribution for the same learners when they move to Grade 11 and Grade 12.

Francis Atwoli has told former President Uhuru Kenyatta to retire and stop what he called tribal incitement as political tensions start building ahead of the next election. Speaking during the burial of Kilifi North MP Owen Baya’s mother, Dorothy Baya Mweri, Atwoli said Uhuru is not helping the opposition organize itself and claimed there is currently no strong opposition in the country. He also said President William Ruto played a key role in Uhuru becoming president, adding that Uhuru failed to make Raila Odinga president even when he had the power to do so. Atwoli predicted that Ruto will be re-elected with a landslide if elections were held today. Ruto’s aide Farouk Kibet also warned leaders against promoting tribal politics and asked religious leaders not to give platforms to politicians who spread division. Several leaders attended the burial, including Senate Speaker Amason Kingi, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, Kilifi Governor Gideon Mung’aro, Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir and Youth Affairs PS Fikirini Jacobs.
