@PartBaptist1689 but there's strong testimony in post-apostolic writers like St Irenaeus, Eusebius, etc. (Unlikely lists were invented since in living memory, & the fact that Irenaeus appealed to bishop-lists vs Gnostics suggests wide acceptance of succession principle)...

I find episcopal succession problematic for a few reasons. 1. We cannot trace back bishops to the apostles 2. The apostles didn't distinguish between bishop and elder 3. If you tried to find the earliest church by episcopal succession you would land on Anglicanism*

@ChrisxCrash92 Possibly due to late 20th cent spread of Neo/Marxist & Sanger-influenced feminist schools. But it wasnt always so. IIRC, in mid 20th century Latin American women voters strengthened Catholic & conservative parties; & USA women voted mostly conservative God bless you

This is why marxists always target single women, especially single moms.

Women’s voting patterns have destroyed every country they’ve been allowed to vote in. Women either need to stop voting emotionally or stop voting at all. Feeling bad for someone or something doesn’t give you the right to destroy the country from within.

@NormalGuy8 @roddreher @ActonInstitute 4. East's autocephaly & pietism left it vulnerable to state cooption. That said, as Thomism showed in using Western grace & Eastern theosis, there is much the traditions can teach & have taught each other, & affect & analysis r both needed for religion & culture Deus tecum

@NormalGuy8 @roddreher @ActonInstitute 1. Fails to note that West has mystical & devotional tradition 2. These didnt decline thru "analysis" or grace-nature divide, but due to capitalism & anti-mystical Protestantism 3. East's right-brain is defection from the Eastn Fathers whose analyses dominated 4th-8th centuries

This is a really good objection to the growing popularity of Orthodox Christianity in Western circles. I made this point more broadly in my critique of @roddreher's book "Living in Wonder" for @ActonInstitute here: blog.acton.org/archives/12616…..

We must resist the growing scourge of Communism in our culture!!!!! This is why we must adopt the culture and institutions of the countries infamously amazing at resisting communism: Eastern Europe!!!!

Government persecution of Christian converts in Islamic countries is barbaric. European governments (both Catholic and Protestant) once engaged in similar barbarism. They outgrew it. Islamic countries need to do the same if they want to be taken seriously by the West.👇🏻

@jzipple @BishopBarron Partly dis/agree w this statement. It's partly true in way that passions & pressures may affect reason in middle of crisis. But obverse may be said of clergy, not from passion but from their inexperience of prudential demands of civil rule. Better to say it's a shared task.

@A_lickity_split Thank you publishing a translation of Demetrios Cydones. The world needs more exposure to Eastern writers who, within their particular tradition, upheld the universal Church. Deus tecum
