The primary energy fallacy is the idea that all primary energy from fossil fuels must be replaced with an equivalent amount of clean energy. BUT: This is not necessary because conversion losses do not need to be replaced. More than 2/3 of all primary energy is lost as waste heat. I first heard @MLiebreich use this term which captures this phenomenon nicely I think.

A key factor for how many heat pumps get installed: It is the ratio between electricity and gas prices (so-called spark gap). @helloheatpumps produced this helpful graphic showing that countries with the highest spark gap also see fewest heat pump installs.
