Itโs sad that during your formative years, your exposure to the world is largely limited by your parentโs own exposure. If they value things like music lessons, spelling bees, sports, or exploring random hobbies, you benefit from that. If not, itโs just chores and TV for you.

Iโve been having a lot of conversations locally in Chicago and asynchronously about how โcity momsโ are a very very important housing consistency whose needs are not being represented by major housing groups
Many of the most visible pro-housing and YIMBY-adjacent groups skew towards childless men, and the focus tends to be on maximizing unit counts rather than delivering housing that works for families over the long term.
(They claim that increasing unit counts will lead to broader affordability but I havenโt seen any evidence that flooding a city with studios brings down cost of 4BDs with yard access)
New development tends to be either low density sprawl or megaprojects. Neither reliably delivers what many households need: a family-sized home, embedded in a walkable neighborhood, with usable yard
