Wahlert vs. Hempstead – My 3 Takes Last night was a rare win for me—my 2- and 4-year-old actually sat and watched the game, which meant I got to really focus on the action. Here’s what stood out: 1. Connor Walsh is the best catch-and-release shooter I’ve seen this year. He needs just a split second to get his shot off, and when he does, it’s money from three. 2. Guarding Reed Strohmeyer takes a village. He’s extremely talented, athletic, and can do it all on the court. Slowing him down is no easy task. 3. Ethan Meyer left a lasting impression—both as a player and as a person. Twice (maybe even more), Hempstead players hit the floor hard, and both times, Ethan reached out a hand to help them up. That’s what high school athletics is all about. As officials, we’re told that high school sports are an extension of the classroom—if it wouldn’t be acceptable there, it shouldn’t be in sports either. Meyer’s sportsmanship was a perfect example of what these games should represent. Nolan Weber Agency Player of the Night: Ethan Meyer, Wahlert Catholic Ethan Meyer was everywhere for Wahlert Catholic on Tuesday night, leading the Golden Eagles to a hard-fought 59-51 victory over Cedar Rapids Washington. Meyer stuffed the stat sheet with 20 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 steals, proving to be a force on both ends of the court. Whether he was scoring, setting up teammates, or creating havoc on defense, Meyer’s all-around dominance was key in securing the win.
