So true. If I was a kpop idol I'd never want to date a fan. I would want to date the opposite. Someone in the industry, not even someone famous but someone behind the scenes. Makeup artist, stylist, etc. There are so many people in their lives you don't see.
.Vypes. 🐍@Vypes

not to be a bitch but the love of your life is not a kpop idol. the love of your life is out there right now scrolling on tik tok or eating a subway sandwich. go find them. stop being jealous over someone who’s not meant for you.

@404bsk Because a majority of the time international fans (Westerners) love to say that idols should obviously know better. When if you have a singular brain cell there are so many reasons why an idol could not. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ But anyway. I said I was wrong. 3/3

@404bsk It's people like you that i tend to defend idols from because I never said the confederate flag wasn't bad. I simply accept the fact that not everyone has the same amount of knowledge I do and the world doesn't revolve around western history. 2/

Alright. If Koreans are calling Mark out then I'm done defending him. It's my bad. I'll admit I was wrong. I'm just used to Western kpop fans being my so Western focused and refusing to acknowledge difference in context, etc. But I was wrong.

@th3ch4ser @7tevens It's very easy to make assumptions about people from social media. It's harder to give grace or even just try letting go. But in the end I guess we'll just see what he does next.

@th3ch4ser @7tevens That's a valid opinion. I just think that we are holding a bit of a high standard here. If you saw a cool flag in a relatively well traveled shop on a shirt, would you immediately think to look it up? I wouldn't. Well, I guess it depends. I think people want him to be evil

This. It bothers me that people assumed Handong would even be in those same algorithms. Just because something is going viral in one community that doesn't mean it is in another.
EY_Helen@EYHelen_w

I'd like to share my thoughts on the recent discussion about Handong one last time. As a Chinese person who lives within Chinese-speaking online communities, I have indeed seen discussions about this doll being controversial. However, not everyone has come across those news or paid attention to them. In any case, these differences come down to individual experiences and awareness. What has bothered me is seeing some people assume that Chinese people as a whole share this kind of "malice". I feel uncomfortable with that misunderstanding as well, so I tried to provide some context (posts on Chinese SNS that raised concerns or criticism about the circulation of such dolls). But that doesn't mean I think Handong did it intentionally. Objectively speaking, it is difficult for many Chinese people to fully relate to racial issues surrounding skin color and even less so to be racists because of them. At the same time, I am disappointed by this incident because it suggests that neither she nor her team pays much attention to social issues. Perhaps they focus only on singing, dancing, and their careers. In my view, that falls short of the standard a truly excellent artist should have. I am an individual, a Somnia, and also a member of the society I live in. These identities can coexist. I hope everyone can follow their own conscience and look at the situation objectively, without turning it into something bigger than it is or stereotyping entire groups of people (although I know that's almost impossible🙁

She wiped the post immediately and wrote a real, personal apology herself instead of hiding behind corporate PR. It doesn't take away the hurt, but with a clean 7-year track record, this was a massive blindspot, not hate. She deserves the grace to learn from it. 8/8

Also, Handong didn’t even buy it. She found it left in a shared dance studio. If you aren’t chronically online scrolling dark trends, you aren’t gonna look at a random toy in a practice room and instantly assume a racist backstory. You just think it’s weird and post it. 7/

People can be upset about what Handong did, it's valid. The same when any idol does something like this. But I desperately need fans to do some deep thinking about do you genuinely think they mean it in that intensely malicious way you are taking it? AGAIN - 1/

@mistyfriz that's fair. I just know a lot of CGI now looks like AI too on purpose for some reason. Plus people think like manual labor AI that's been in use for decades is the same thing they hate. Which it isn't. But I getchu don't worry.

@fandom_shooketh Dw ! Thank your for asking though cause I'd also give them the benefit of the doubt since they used to have very good vfx and cgi designs but at the same time it looked a lot like AI so 😭
