If you haven't noticed - we signed off from X. As a youth justice org, we want to engage on platforms that reflect our values—community care, equity, and accountability. Sadly, the leadership of X stands in stark contrast to this. Follow us elsewhere as we continue our fight.✊🏿

“This is about profit-making, not child welfare and public safety,” @ginabwomack said. “Our youth are the ones who suffer abuse in unsafe facilities lacking adequate care, education, and services.”

Last week, many Louisiana officials were upset a detention center violated a state law to ID a juvenile escapee. How about a detention center that operated without a license, maced and held kids in solitary, and apparently avoided paying 200k+ in fines, all against state law?

Youth deserve opportunities, guidance, and second chances. We achieve better outcomes for youth and greater community safety by keeping youth out of the system by supporting them through diversion programs, mental health treatment, and other interventions.

It's difficult to hold the system accountable if you don't know the system. Our state constitution states the public education system must provide learning environments that are humane and just so EVERY individual is afforded an EQUAL opportunity to develop their full potential.

“We are deeply disappointed by the lack of accountability and protection of youth in the state’s custody. Kenny Loftin failed the youth in his care, and those failures have repercussions for the safety of our communities." nola.com/news/politics/…

This appointment of Kenny Loftin to OJJ is beyond inappropriate and sends an alarming message that the state will not protect youth within its care. This woeful lack of accountability on Loftin’s part simply cannot earn him a promotion. #WareWasKenny lailluminator.com/2024/06/02/lan…

Take Action NOW! Over 40 people reported sexual abuse at Ware during Kenny Loftin's tenure. Yet Gov Jeff Landry has now proposed appointing the former director of Ware as the new head of OJJ. The vote is 2day! bit.ly/warewaskenny #WareWasKenny

Instead of creating incentives for local detention centers to have kids locked up, we should be finding ways to reduce beds and find alternatives to incarceration. #NoKidsinPrison #NoMorePrisons
