@zaskaii @Smiley_quin I think him dragging his employees around the backrooms acting like its an amusement park signals that he’s not all there. He is unreasonably calm about the situation

@Smiley_quin Yes it can work to show a little bit of how he spiraled but from a writing pov you have to at the very least tease that. Tease that he is willing to go to that length/sanity they kinda did witht the acting at the start but its not enough for me. Either way amazing film.

I can understand this completely, but I think what they were trying to do was put you in Mary’s perspective. Having only a little bit of an idea of how he spiraled is actually kinda creepy to me.

I liked backrooms a lot but my main criticism is that Clark is a really interesting character that they kind of fumble by not actually showing his descent into madness. obviously the pieces are there in the beginning but it’s such a hard cut to him suddenly being crazy.

@50shadesof_gabe Yeah but we don’t *see* that happen.
We see him walk around and then escape some unseen monster, then we jump forward to when he’s already gotten to that point of obsession, and after the only expedition he becomes almost an entirely different character out of nowhere.

genuinely, how are people confused by the ending
it's so obviously just putting a cherry on top by showing off backroom remembrances of places we saw throughout the movie. it's not even remotely deeper than that
it's literally just "bro, look how raw af this is," and that's it

@burgahmeister @50shadesof_gabe From my point of view, i feel like the average viewer would want to know about asyncs role and what they do. the interview reveals that async knows just about as much as the audience does, emphasizing just how incomprehensible and terrifying the backrooms are

@50shadesof_gabe Why, but when the movie focuses so heavily on Clark and Mary we really don’t give a shit about Asyncs role. Like that isn’t at all a nagging question people are thinking about during the movie. It’s literally a nothing burger

@Refresh_RM it all comes down to proportions and stylization, proportions can be changed to make the character look more like an adult but not much more can be done due to the nature of anime (big eyes, big head, etc.)
