Today, I joined H.E. Governor Gladys Wanga and the people of Rongo in Kamwango Kuna, to pay our last respects to Mama Angelina Atieno. At 92, she lived a remarkable life defined by service, humility and dedication to family and community. Her legacy lives on through the many lives she touched, including her grandson, Jared Omach, who continues to serve under the ODM leadership. My heartfelt condolences go out to her family and loved ones during this difficult time. May they find comfort in her impactful life and the memories she leaves behind. Rest in eternal peace, Mama Angelina Atieno.

We held a productive meeting with a team from @UNICEFKenya led by Dr. Shaheen Nilofer, the UNICEF representative to Kenya. The meeting focused on strengthening evidence-based interventions to socio-economic challenges that young women, adolescents and children, who are often victims of cultural manipulation and exploitation, face.

Thank you Hon. Fatuma @fullnetwork044 for hosting us to showcase the gains of delivering social impacts via integrated ways of doing things. Glad to interact with young girls and the entrepreneurs and hear stories from girls how they are able to go back to school and participate in various opportunities. The artisans behind the sewing machines were not only producing sanitary towels but also weaving stories of girls empowerment.

Menstrual hygiene is fundamental to dignity, health, and uninterrupted learning for every girl child. Yesterday, I had the honour of hosting the Country Director of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Dr. Shaheen Nilofer. The engagement provided a valuable opportunity to showcase the initiatives already underway and to explore how UNICEF can further complement and strengthen these efforts for greater impact. During the visit to the sanitary pad factory, we underscored its pivotal role in advancing menstrual hygiene management. The facility supports the local production of affordable and accessible sanitary products, thereby safeguarding the dignity, health, and school retention of the girl child. In addition, it undertakes the knitting of school uniforms for needy students across the county, further enhancing access to education and easing the burden on vulnerable families. This initiative reflects our steadfast commitment to empowering girls, promoting their wellbeing, and creating an enabling environment in which every child can learn, grow, and thrive without limitation.

Together with Hon. Jim Clement @CAyungo, Director of Public Health, and the UNICEF Representative to Kenya, Dr. Shaheen Nilofer, we visited Nyora in North Kadem Ward, Nyatike Sub-County, where we witnessed a free medical outreach programme organised by the County Government of Migori in collaboration with the Kenya Red Cross and UNICEF. The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and Red Cross medical camp was held at Nyora Primary School, North Kadem Ward, Nyatike Sub-County. This impactful initiative provided essential healthcare services to the community, with a focus on improving access to quality medical care for women, children, and other vulnerable groups. The programme underscores the importance of strong partnerships between government and development partners in strengthening primary healthcare delivery and promoting community wellbeing at the grassroots level.

Today, in the presence of the @UNICEFKenya Representative to Kenya, Dr. Shaheen Nilofer, I officially launched the first SmartPad Digital Dispenser Initiative across all learning institutions in Migori County, with the pilot model showcased at Migori Primary School during the UNICEF delegation visit. The initiative introduces a modern, safe, and discreet digital sanitary pad dispensing system aimed at promoting menstrual hygiene management in schools. It seeks to safeguard the dignity of the girl child, reduce school absenteeism, and ensure consistent access to essential sanitary products within a supportive learning environment. This programme marks a significant step towards advancing girls’ education, promoting health and wellbeing, and strengthening inclusive learning across Migori County.

In my capacity as the Woman Representative of Migori County, I joined His Excellency Governor Ochilo Ayacko in hosting a delegation from @UNICEFKenya, led by Dr. @ShaheenSnilofer, to strengthen our collaboration on key social and health challenges. UNICEF remains a vital partner in advancing efforts to combat FGM, GBV, and early pregnancies, while enhancing maternal and child health across Migori County. We are committed to deepening this partnership, including plans to establish a rescue centre for survivors in Nyatike, providing protection, care, and a pathway to recovery.

The match ended in a goalless draw (0–0) in regular time, leading to a penalty shootout where Awendo Youth Academy Football Club emerged victorious with a 4–2 win. The political ground has shifted. Today’s Kenyan youth are vigilant, informed, and demanding more than rhetoric. At the ODM Youth Convention, Nairobi City Edition, the message was clear: Loyalty must be matched with opportunity. Against the backdrop of a tough economic landscape and a generation seeking to redefine leadership, ODM reaffirmed its commitment to being the bridge between today’s struggles and tomorrow’s solutions. The declaration from Jamhuri Grounds wasn't just about strengthening the party in the capital but a call for a genuine partnership. We have heard you. We assure you: We are in this together until the very end. #VijanaNaPawaa
