On December 16th, 2023, Jacksonville State defeated Louisiana 34-31 in overtime in the 23rd New Orleans Bowl. It came down to Jacksonville kicker Garrison Rippa who nailed a 27-yard field goal. This marked their first-ever FBS bowl game victory, in their first year as an FBS team
