Incredibly honored to receive the Dirk Helhammer Award from the @ISPNE recognizing our recent work on ventral hippocampal circuits controlling HPA axis function and stress-related behaviors and my other contributions to the field. Congrats to @grantsshields also on his award!

@EikoFried I had a review request from an Elsevier journal recently that I went to decline, and uBlock blocked the link because it redirected/went through a site on Peter Lowe's ad and tracking list. It's ridiculous that they're putting tracking cookies in links sent to academic emails.

Do *not* give Elsevier your data when they ask you stuff like this, even if it is *required*. Their main business is now data analytics, and they sell your information for profit. eiko-fried.com/welcome-to-hot…

Something I looked forward to probably too much: changing my bio from PhD ‘Student’ to ‘Candidate’ but it’s official!🎉 I passed my prelims to be awarded my Masters in Psych. Thanks to my committee for a thoughtful discussion, + my supportive cohort who showered me w celebration!

Eating homemade bourbon whipped cream with a spoon for breakfast is totally normal on grant deadline days, right?

@JennCVeilleux Yeah, I do; I included those two alone just because it was a secondary outcome and our scan time couldn't accommodate more trial types, so we went with the most-studied ones. I'd love to talk about better approaches!

@grantsshields Haha didn't mean to ding you here, Grant! There is nothing wrong with reappraisal and suppression provided you know that they are but 2 of many ER strategies. I would certainly like to see other ones get more attention from neuroscience though! Let's chat!

This is one of those "laugh and cry at the same time" memes. (Which neuroscientists probably don't realize is an example of mixed emotions...)

@whlevine I would. My hope would be that the editor wants to use it to make a more informed decision before sending the manuscript out to others with reviewer requests.

I was asked to review a paper I've reviewed 2x for another journal. I told the editor & they said I shouldn't review it again (fine by me), but asked if I could share my review from the other journal. Is it acceptable to share my prior review? #AcademicChatter

@JennCVeilleux I'd love to hear your thoughts on better paradigms for the future! We included it as a secondary outcome, primary being EF, but I'd like my secondary outcomes to be the best they can be!

Me again with another book recommendation request 😉 A good book on #Epigenetics? Either a textbook or a popular-science book, something affordable, interesting and easy to understand. Amazon has too many options.. TIA 🙏 @AcademicChatter

@dp_moriarity IMO if you're not sure you're doing something right, bring on a collaborator to help before submission. No one should rely on peer reviewers to catch their errors.

@dp_moriarity It's the editor's responsibility to ensure all aspects of the paper are reviewed w/ expertise. The authors presumably think everything is 💯 because they submitted. I'd be surprised if authors solicited feedback from others because reviewers said they lack expertise on an aspect

I often start reviews by stating the aspects of the paper I don't have the expertise to be a definitive reviewer on, but I don't see others do this. Is this helpful to editors/reviewers? Figured it helps editors assign beta weights to my points+authors consider how to revise...

Meghan Quinn's and my paper integrating work on stress, executive control, and psychopathology is now published in Clinical Psychological Science! We propose a model to integrate this work. Check it out here: journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/21…
