At the UN Commission on the Status of Women, 37 countries voted to strengthen access to justice for women and girls. Six abstained. One voted against: the United States under Donald Trump. Alone. Against a global effort to advance women’s rights. Blocking progress on justice, equality and protection for women is not defending values – it is turning your back on them. At a time when millions of women still face violence, discrimination and legal barriers, the world needs courage and leadership, not ideological obstruction. Europe must stand firm: women’s rights are human rights, everywhere.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez on Iran: Today more than ever, it is essential to remember that one can be against a hateful regime, as is the case with the Iranian regime, as is the whole of Spanish society, and at the same time be against an unjustified, dangerous military intervention outside of international law. That one must be against a war initiated without the authorization of the United States Congress or the United Nations Security Council and, as I have said before, one that violates international law. And that there is always room for a negotiated solution, instead of being dragged along by the devastation of arms as the only possible way out. Therefore, I would like once again, as we have done since the beginning, to appeal for immediate de-escalation, for full respect for international law in all the conflicts we are unfortunately suffering, and for the urgency of resuming dialogue as soon as possible. That is where Spain will be, and that is where I believe the whole of the European Union should be.

This is a stunning authoritarian power grab, and all because Anthropic wouldn't comply with the Pentagon's unreasonable demands. It's an attempt to commandeer the private sector to the administration's will. Every day there is a new affront to decency, good sense, the rule of law, and the Constitution.

To put a finer point on what just happened: Hegseth's post says that "no contractor, supplier, or partner that does business with the United States military may conduct any commercial activity with Anthropic". Anthropic serves its models through the cloud. Its primary partner is AWS, but it also serves its models through Google Cloud and Azure (not sure if there are any others?). ALL of Amazon, Microsoft and Google do business with the U.S. military (see, e.g., the link below). If we take Hegseth's post literally, Anthropic should now find itself unable to serve its models via any of these providers. war.gov/News/Releases/…
