Pulling this cover away for asm 1000 is so disrespectful to the creators that made Spider-Man who he is today. You may not like the cover but the significance of the pose and the artist is enough for it to be the A cover... Shame on yall to complain, im making a vid on this tmr.

I will never accept John Romita Jr slander. I do not have the words to articulate how much his art means to me.

He drew some of the best Marvel books is what he did. He is a brave Italian American! And in this house, John Romita Jr. is a hero. End of story!

What makes matters even more funny is that Spider-Man art is never the issue, it’s usually the dog shit stories that Marvel churns out. Why is one of the industry’s greatest artist being slandered online but not editorial?

JRJR penciled it for an inker — pure black‑and‑white — and then it was beautifully painted, adding an entirely new dimension. As a fellow inker, I probably would’ve gone jet‑black on Spider‑Man and let the stars in the sky define the shadows on the costume. But once it became a painted piece, it evolved into something else entirely. That’s the beauty of this art form: pencils become inks, and sometimes become paint, and at every stage a different artist can take it in a different direction and create a different outcome. That evolution is something to celebrate — it’s collaboration in motion. You don’t have to love the pose or every choice made, but the rendering is strong, and the painting layered over it is genuinely impressive work.

when it comes to how Kirby's art was treated i always remember Romita Sr talking about how he was ordered to deface artwork that he idolised.

You can dislike how his artwork looks (though I'd say that's largely down to deadlines and colouring when it comes to most his modern stuff), but saying he can't convey storytelling is just completely insulting and entirely untrue

I REALLY like this cover because we so rarely see JR’s work rendered three dimensionally with a painterly approach. It’s a striking take that feels unique. But, it would also be pretty stunning colored like he is more often - like ASM 600 pictured here.

Romtia Jr is more then deserving of having the main cover of ASM 1000, he’s being drawing Spider-Man since the beginning on his career. Changing it due to people not liking it massively disrespectful to him. This continues marvel’s tradition with not treating artists fairly

I’m not even a big Romita Jr fan, but pulling his cover for ASM 1000 is absolute bullshit The Romita family are so crucial in the legacy of Spider-Man - his cover belongs on this book. It shouldn’t be anyone else

JRJR, Sale (RIP), Miller, they’re masters whove done every kind of classic design (they invented a lot) - so in recent years we get to watch them experiment to find things they’ve never done. For a lot of us creators, the boldness is incredibly inspiring. Legends still pushing 1/
