El espía español que entró en La Meca y levantó los primeros planos de la Kaaba Hoy se ven las caras España y Arabia Saudí, y vamos a contar la historia de un catalán que pisó el corazón de Arabia mucho antes de que existiera el reino saudí. Se llamaba Domingo Badía y Leblich, había nacido en Barcelona en 1767, y en 1807 entró en La Meca haciéndose pasar por un príncipe musulmán. El ministro Godoy lo había mandado a Oriente con una identidad inventada de arriba abajo, la de 'Alí Bey el Abasí', supuesto descendiente de los abasíes y por ello de la familia del Profeta. Badía se circuncidó, se dejó crecer la barba, aprendió el árabe que pudo y cargó con instrumentos astronómicos y de medición, pues lo que parecía una peregrinación piadosa era en el fondo una misión de espionaje al servicio de Carlos IV. El 23 de enero de 1807 dio las siete vueltas rituales a la Kaaba, el tawaf que cumple todo peregrino, aunque por dentro iba calculando latitudes y dibujando los planos del santuario. Otros europeos habían llegado antes a la ciudad santa, pero ninguno la había fijado sobre un mapa con rigor ni descrito con esa exactitud sus templos y sus ritos. Su relato fue durante décadas la mejor descripción que tenía Occidente de un lugar vedado a los infieles bajo pena de muerte. Badía fue además uno de los primeros europeos en describir a los wahabíes, aquel movimiento religioso entonces naciente en el desierto de Arabia que siglo y medio más tarde daría su sello al reino saudí. Un espía enviado desde Madrid tomó nota de ellos cuando casi nadie en Europa sabía que existían. Murió en 1818 camino de un nuevo viaje a La Meca, al parecer envenenado en una taza de café. En Barcelona, el carrer d'Alí Bei lleva todavía el nombre del disfraz con el que se coló en la ciudad santa.

Do the other races actually descend from Caucasians? Behavioral modernity originated around 50k years ago in the Near East, with a relatively small population that originally received the roughly 2% Neanderthal admixture that today has spread all around the world. That population is the cultural ancestor of almost all humans alive today on every continent. Even the Upper Paleolithic in Africa inherited its more advanced technology from that Near Eastern UP hub group, along with minimal Neanderthal admixture - and since the UP most African paternal markers have been replaced by paternal markers originating from Eurasia. Almost every language around the world today almost certainly traces back to the language spoken by that original hub group. The exceptions, if any, would only be isolated tribes in the Congo. Being visibly distinct from both Neanderthals and Middle Paleolithic Sapiens the hub population likely forgot its admixed origins, and came to conceive of itself as a fundamentally separate group, and probably in chauvinistic way, as they had more advanced technology, art and were in all likelihood considerably more intelligent. If this narrative is correct, and the Neanderthal admixture event created a rupture with previous cultural traditions, and a new conception of human identity for the admixed population, then it would serve as a de facto origin point in the collective cultural memory of our species. So who were those people? It would be a stretch to call them "Caucasian", but all of their later descendents who ended up receiving no further admixture were Caucasians. The hub population went east and admixed with Denisovans, they went south and admixed with Africans, but their genetic identity was preserved pure in Europe, where Western Hunter Gatherers were only descended from them and from no other group. Although Denisovan admixture is a small percentage of East Asian DNA, those admixture events would have greatly affected their selection dynamics (a different set of Homo Sapiens genes were selected for in their groups that worked well with Denisovan genes) and would have led to dramatic morphological changes, as in fact we see early on with Tianyuan man. The East Asian population with the least Denisovan impact were the Jomon people of Japan, the primary ancestors of the Ainu, and it's often remarked that they appear Caucasoid compared to other East Asians. (They're not actually "Caucasian", but this explains the morphological similarities) The original behaviorally modern group was closest to the Caucasian race, and they deviated from that in various ways as they spread around the world admixing with more archaic populations. Modern Caucasians have since received an influx of unadmixed Sapiens DNA, the Basal Eurasian ghost population, which means that a greater percentage of the autosomal DNA of East Asians is actually from the hub group, but it seems that the Basal Eurasian admixture, although larger, didn't have the same dramatic morphological impact as the Denisovan admixture in East Asians, probably because Basal Eurasians were very similar to the Sapiens population that originally went into the hub. So although there are qualifications to be made, I think it is fair to say that the original behaviorally modern humans were effectively Caucasian, and the other races alive today diverged from Caucasians as a result of admixture with other, more archaic, groups.

Despite all the horrific things that white people have historically done to Asians, especially East Asians & South-East Asians, their hatred for us runs so deep.
