Short form media is actually good for democracy. It allows ideas to flow between people so much better. Communication never had a depth problem, but a breath and exposure problem.

I like X because it forces people to articulate their ideas with maximum information density. This allows society to sort between good and bad ideas more effectively.

Better way of thinking about “riskier” markets (memecoins, prediction markets, derivatives) is that they are more “competitive”. Trading against Jane Street or Citadel in them is a lot like gambling on winning a chess game against Carlsen.

I don’t get how so many people can work in the industry of “finance”. Like how hard could it possibly be to finance things? Something isn’t intuitively adding up about all that to me.

Just finished Flash Boys by Michael Lewis. Cool book, learned a lot about HFT and how the markets have evolved over the last 50 years. I'm curious to learn more about the transition to blockchain financial systems happening today. Is there an HFT analogue for blockchain infra?

@punished_daniel One of my hot takes is that they should make the test harder. Two dudes might get perfect math scores, one just studied for 30 hours, the other might be IMO level good. It’s not hard enough to discern the finer differences between people who do well on it. Especially for math.

@bcherny @thomaspaulmann Critical question here is how long until you guys reach the level of abstraction where you can just be like "make yourself better" and it's like alright, and goes and makes itself better. Will there ever come a point where it makes itself better... without being told to?

My collaborator @ebarschkis has solved Erdos Problem #347, with none other than Terry Tao confirming the proof!
Way to go Enrique! At only 17 years old, we have worked on elliptic curve cryptography together and he stunned me with his brilliance the entire way.

@systematicls Great read. Point about regulatory risks is really good. I remember seeing how inefficient the solana token markets were back in like Janurary and reckoning that the quant firms must have been hesitant to descend on them due to not wanting to deal with backlash.
