@MinModulation I think part of araki’s genius as an artist is that even if some shueisha intern is coloring it for him it still looks bueaitful and doesn’t detract from the detail he put into the black and white page

@WindowLife_ Again I do not understand the idea that Yamato being a man is a bad thing when at the end of the onigashima raid his character arc is set up with no change to his gender or any hint at one. It literally ends with what you could argue is a DECLARATION of Yamatos gender

@junipants__ I'm not saying she stops being a man when speaking as yamato. In fact a big part of here character is balance two different identities. Though this isn't in relation to gender.

The idea that Yamato isn’t a man simply bc he can be interpreted as a woman is stupid when the opposite logic could be applied. Yamatos transness is not an inherent negative bc Yamatos transness is not as intrinsically linked to him “being oden” as y’all think.

@junipants__ Simply because people don't view yamato as trans as thats clearly not what her characterization is and is even seen as a negative to her character fundamentally while there ARE characters who are characterized this way.

@WindowLife_ If that’s what Yamato meant than he would’ve said “I am oden and oden is a man” but like I’m trying to tell u ➡️YAMATO⬅️ became a man because of oden. Oden was already a man

@junipants__ Kaido being defeated does not remove oden from his identity. She wouldn't be one regardless. Like again we quite literally get her justification. Oden was a man -> I became a man. Her becoming a man is inherently tied to oden being a man.

@WindowLife_ That’s not the point. Yes Yamatos identity as oden is straight up delusional but his gender identity I WILL SAY AGAIN LMAO, is what remains consistent. It is a part of YAMATO not just oden. Him living as himself inspired by oden rather than oden still includes being a man

@WindowLife_ Like I’ve been telling you it’s not as simple as “my idol was a man so I’m a man” but you continue to ignore that. Like that he can exist both as oden and himself but what remains consistent is his gender identity IS in fact the most complex trans character in one piece

@junipants__ Im happy you're happy. I don't really see whats complex about My idol was a man so I'm a man and I want to be and live like my idol. Nor do I see the need to downplay any alternative but if thats how you feel.

@WindowLife_ How does this panel NOT disprove that. The separation between oden the man and Yamato the man do not exist bc he’s would be one regardless? He became a man because of oden but he doesn’t suddenly stop when he speaks as Yamato, or when kaido is defeated?

@junipants__ Well no... the idea is that yamato isn't a man because the arguments for that being the case are flawed. Yamatos "transness" and very much so intrinsically linked to her viewing herself as oden. She... quite literally says that? This panel doesn't really disprove that.

@WindowLife_ I actually think it’s more insulting if the intended reading is that Yamato isn’t trans bc it plays into that stereotype that trans men are just confused women that need to embrace their femininity. It’s tired.

@junipants__ Also less telling you rather than questioning the thought process. Which having talked to people who are trans clearly isn't all that invalid considering many share the same belief and actually find yamato being "trans" offensive. But to each their own.

@WindowLife_ I think it’s much more nuanced than that especially bc there are conflicting sources on yamatos actual gender. References that exist outside of the one piece world such as narration or vivre cards argue he is a girl while the actual text argues he’s a boy. Either way he’s a he.
