@fiannafailparty Why don’t you step us through the existing DCC budget and spending first? Explain why they need more income. Go on record and say you think there’s no waste or inefficiency in DCC’s existing operations if you believe it to be true.
English

@IrishTimesBiz Why present it to Darragh O’Brien? He’s not the one who gets to decide. Some unelected civil servant in the NTA will decide. Skip the middle man. Go straight to the NTA

CIÉ chief executive Stephen Kent also said the State-owned transport group would shortly present “concepts” to Minister for Transport Darragh O’Brien about developments around Connolly Station. bit.ly/47rHAkt

@DaraghCassidy A deep retrofit just wouldn’t have been worth it.
I had to relocate and I’m now in an A2 house. Great comfort in the winter but unbearably hot last summer (I’m talking 27°C and open windows having no effect). We’re getting air con installed shortly. 2/
English

@DaraghCassidy Installed solar panels on my previous house. That alone brought it from a D1 to a B3. No disruption and manageable upfront cost. Great savings on bills the couple of years I was there and I think it helped with the sale. I wouldn’t have dreamed of doing a deeper retrofit. 1/
English

A retrofit can easily cost €50k AFTER grants. And you’ll usually need to move out for a few weeks and spend another few grand on rent. What you’ll save on is your annual gas bill or oil fill which costs c. €1.8k a year. So that’s a payback period of almost three decades.

"You should read Eamon Ryan's column in the Irish Times...he takes strong issue with the ESRI's perspective": Taoiseach Micheál Martin insists that houses with better BER ratings have lower bills and that retrofitting is "very, very effective".

@MichealLehane The SocDems want to shield lifelong “jobseekers” from inflation while hard working people are getting squeezed from all sides.

@Independent_ie DCC is particular have questions to answer. Road markings are confusing or non-existent. Road layouts are needlessly inconsistent and confusing. TII and the Minister for Transport need to take DCC to task. How is the situation so bad when they have such a huge budget?
English

Motorists say they’re being driven around the bend by Irish road signs buff.ly/aBol8ji
English

@IrishTimes DCC already have a huge budget. Where is money being wasted? Questions have to be asked as to why the city is filthy and why footpaths / roads are in bits. They ought to convince us that they won’t be wasteful with this additional tourist tax income.
English

Tourist tax of up to €5 per night considered for Dublin city irishtimes.com/ireland/dublin…

@IrishRail @Dept_Transport @TFIupdates @DarraghOBrienTD Lots of great sounding announcements lately. Little in the way of shovels in the ground though.

DART to be extended to Kilcock, as new depot location planned west of the Co Kildare commuter town.
Plans published today and open for public consultation at dartplus.ie/en-ie/home
Capacity for trains every 10 mins to/from Kilcock, double-tracking, electrification and more.

English

@__jack_ryan @VillageMagIRE I actually would. A massively expensive deep retrofit is virtue signalling. They’d never recoup the money in energy savings. The construction emissions from a relocation will cancel out emission savings for years to come. They should do a shallow refit and leave it at that.
English

@kryan4 @VillageMagIRE If DCC go ahead and deep retrofit the existing 1980's built civic offices you'd be moaning about the inflated costs.
What do you actually think is in it for the Chief Executive? He's close to retirement.
English

@DaraghCassidy They need to keep costs low so that there’s enough money for their €561m office move.

ESB Networks is advising households and businesses that they are working to resolve an issue which caused some smart meter readings to be processed incorrectly last week. It has apologised for the "confusion and concern" this may have caused

English

@rtenews It’s no surprise that people aren’t motivated to switch to heat pumps when Ireland has the most expensive electricity in Europe. It’s simple economics - there’s no return on investment for people. Government needs to copy other countries to deliver cheaper electricity.
English

A new report from the Economic and Social Research Institute has found that Ireland is significantly behind, and unlikely to meet, the targets set out in the Climate Action Plan for decarbonising residential heat

@GerHerbert1 Are there any figures available for the rollout of public charging infra? I’m not seeing many new charging hubs around the place (but that could just be me & the areas I frequent). I got caught short a few weeks ago with chargers being out of order and queues. It was a pain!
English

@DaraghCassidy Why boost rail capacity when we can have everyone in the NTA and Dept of Transport spending 100% of their time and energy trying to figure out how to increase average bus speeds from 12 to 14kmh? (As if that will be a game changer… 🙄)
English

And yet two projects that will help with congestion — the Finglas Luas and Dart South West — have both been delayed by the Government.

Minsiter Darragh O’Brien said traffic congestion in Dublin has been the “most significant factor” in recent months and “punctuality is being affected by rising traffic volumes in the city in particular” irishtimes.com/transport/2026…
English

@KeithMillsD7 @PaddyJManning It’s funny how, a couple or weeks ago, DCC were giving the impression that an annual increase in street cleaning costs to the tune of €500k to €1m was pushing them to the brink of bankruptcy. Now, €670m is no problem for a shiny new DCC office.
English

Utter insanity that YOU will pay for it. The question has to be asked; why in an era of WFH and increasing automation the council needs more space. AI will probably have done away with half those jobs before they even move to the new site.

@GerHerbert1 @NewstalkFM @NTBreakfast There’s articles today about how people are fainting on dangerously overcrowded trains and that some bus routes have 8% of buses as no shows. Now they want to bring in punitive measures for drivers.

@IrishTimes The bus-centric policy for transport in Dublin is an utter failure. Too much time and attention is being wasted on tinkering with bus services when they’re never going to be sufficient. The focus needs to be on rail. A major expansion of rail must be delivered urgently.
