Mitch Barnhart’s retirement comes only a few weeks after the Lexington Herald-Leader published an article detailing an investigation into former assistant cross-country and track coach Hakon DeVries for alleged sexual harassment and stalking. Barnhart is currently involved in an ongoing lawsuit against the University of Kentucky and two former swim coaches. According to the lawsuit, the university allowed former coach Lars Jorgensen to foster a “toxic, sexually hostile environment within the swim program.” Jorgensen was accused of rape and sexual assault amongst other Title IX violations.
