@Pd1000Patricia @SCRIBEMOON Lafd is speaking. They've provided several updates since yesterday and have explained what they're doing, what to expect, why they can't approach it in ways the public expects them to, etc. I don't think lafd is the problem tbh.

We are on Day 5 of this very toxic fire here in LA. The entire cities feels like a giant ashtray toxic fumes throughout the Southland. We don’t know how it started. We know there’s 90,000,000 pounds of food in there.
Karen was in Chicago. Maybe still is. Might be. No photo ops.
She declared a state of emergency yesterday so she or her staff are alive somewhere.
Why is the fire going on for five days? We don’t know anything.

The huge cold-storage facility in Boyle Heights has been burning since June 17, 2026. Started on the roof during solar panel testing by contractors. Lineage (the operator/tenant) has a record of 77+ violations, including 55 workplace safety/OSHA issues and $5M+ in penalties since 2000. The same site had a roof fire in 2024. Many Los Angeles county residents are reporting headaches, and feeling nauseous from the toxic smoke.

@UCLA_Grad Seems to be worse for those on the west side as the wind sends it that way now. For days, it was coming east, and it was horrible. :/
English

@UCLA_Grad The smoke is really bad. They were able to open up the warehouse last night, though, and extinguish the fire that was inside. I live close enough that I can see it from my window. Unfortunately, the smoke continues to be an issue, but less dark smoke for sure.

@wendycarrillo Thank you for this! Fortunately, the ground smoke has not affected many of the homes in actual boyle heights. For days, the smoke has been coming into homes on the East LA side, and we don't know what to do! Some homes are a block or two away from access to resources @HildaSolis
English

UPDATE: environmental harms are real for our community. While the warehouse is burning in Boyle Heights within the City of Los Angeles boundaries, it is only ONE BLOCK away from East Los Angeles. With the wind pushing the smoke east, it is mostly unincorporated East LA that is receiving the toxic fumes, ash, and environmental hazards from this fire. With no local city council or mayor, we are reliant only on the County Supervisor @HildaSolis who for the most past has been ABSENT from East LA. No community meeting has been set up from her office to address the 25,000 gallons (595 barrels) of crude oil that spilled onto the streets of East LA just a few weeks ago. DISGRACEFUL.
Now this.
Please stay safe and stay indoors. We must demand justice.

@Angela4CA Quick question: Are residents in unincorporated East LA able to receive air purifiers? If so, is there a link or a contact number? Smoke that heads east and has been covering homes is technically not in Boyle Heights @HildaSolis ?? This info doesn't seem to be readily available
English

@SupJaniceHahn The fact that a warehouse like this was allowed to be built steps away from where people live is INSANE. This should not be allowed! Smoke is covering people's homes and unincorporated East LA doesn't receive the same resources Boyle Heights does. People need air purifiers! Badly
English

@mkliebmann I thought it was interesting that once the smoke started going west this morning, we got some quick reactions/responses.
English

@labruja04 100%. If this happened in West LA it would be nationwide news. My heart breaks for all those I know will get sick from this and frankly a lawsuit doesn’t feel sufficient bc at its core, this is a deeply ingrained societal and racial injustice.
English

@mkliebmann This has been going on for four days. Some of us, with our homes constantly covered in smoke day and night. Now that there are no big watch parties and games in LA, they decide to take it seriously. It's so disappointing and upsetting. Environmental racism at its finest 🙃
English

@nithyavraman Thank you for this. With no exciting watch parties and World Cup games here today, it seems now elected officials have taken more time to focus on this. Residents in the area have had their homes covered in smoke for DAYS and have been awaiting updates like these from them.
English

@NOlympicsLA They might show more urgency now that the west side is being affected by the smoke. It wasn't enough when East LA and the residents directly in front of the building were being covered in smoke. Masks are just barely starting to be handed out to residents.
English

@_jonnyshotit_ @YsabelJuradoLA They might start talking about it more now that the smoke is heading west and affecting a different population. Those in unincorporated East LA are not considered or prioritized the same way, unfortunately.
English

...sooo there's an environmental disaster going on in Boyle Heights right now and nobody is talking about it? What's the deal? @YsabelJuradoLA
English

@lisanapoli @LAFD It is. It's been burning for many days with heavy smoke coming east. It is now heading west, towards dtla. We are close enough that we can see from our window. Please continue posting about it since elected officals don't seem as concerned with places like unincorporated East LA
English

@LAFD Smoke engulfing northern DTLA this AM. Is this from the Boyle Heights warehouse fire? Smells more like wildfire.

Truthfully, Senator Durazo and Supervisor Solis can do a lot. They're both transitioning into new roles and I think it's up to the community to make sure this is a priority. Should we win these two important seats in Congress that represent industrial heavy areas, I would work with Solis to find immediate solutions. This is so bad.
English

When I fought further warehouses being built in and around East LA. I was fighting FOR environmental justice.
We’re still healing from the Exide battery plant, where a recent study found lead in our children’s teeth. The May 22 spill sent thousands of gallons of crude oil into a community lacking representation, our storm drains, and the LA River. Now, we won't know the long-term consequences of today's crisis. But we won’t stop until we get answers, expand lead testing before and during pregnancy, and create an entity that keeps residents informed, connected, and heard.
