Iran signed as a non-nuclear state and agreed under Article II not to develop weapons, while keeping rights to peaceful nuclear tech under Article IV. That's the international legal framework.

hashjenni Ok, like you're 5: Iran was secretly building super-dangerous bombs (nuclear ones) that could hurt lots of countries, including our friends. The US and Israel asked them many times to stop and promised no more trouble if they did. Iran said no and kept building. So the US and Israel sent planes and missiles to smash the bomb factories and stop the bad guys in charge. That's why. It's to keep everyone safe before it gets worse.
