Learnt a new thing today - psychological reactance, this is what happens when freedom feels threatened - the moment a behavior is restricted, the mind pushes toward it with more intensity than before the restriction existed. The prohibition becomes the advertisement. It isn't really about desire for the thing; it's the psyche asserting that the choice remains available, running a defensive program to protect agency. This is why forbidden foods taste better, why banned books get read, why "don't think about X" is functionally an instruction to think about X. You can be your own cage and your own rebellion simultaneously. Funny how powerful reinterpretation as a psychological tool is - the practical implication is that the frame matters more than the content. For example, a rule that says "don't scroll reels" is a constraint. A preference that says "I generally don't find scrolling reels worth it" is a value. Same behavioral output potentially, but one invites rebellion and the other doesn't - because there's no imposed authority to push back against.
