
you're comparing fuel taxes with property taxes with is pretty ignorant. fuel is a sales tax, property is a wealth tax. unlike property you don't have to perpetually pay taxes for owning of fuel.
a better solution would be to charge sales tax on property, perhaps tying it into the escrow payments, meaning you can eventually pay it off. this means that people with fixed incomes won't be priced out of home ownership due to increased property valuations.
