Jonathan Gannon had cornerbacks coach Ryan Smith call the defense and passing game coordinator/wide receivers coach Drew Terrell call the offense during Saturday night’s game in Denver. It might seem small on the surface but it speaks to whom Gannon is on a deeper level. One of the unsung things about Gannon is how he prepares his assistants for the next job. This is one example. Here’s another: When he got to Arizona, he wanted his assistants to talk to the media and get comfortable in front of the cameras. Gannon knew it’d become a part of their job if and when they became coordinators. He’s climbed the ladder so he knows what it takes and now is passing that down to his staff. Not all head coaches are like that.
