To give some context to the JRob/Gable/Spitz story. If I remember his story correctly at Gable Gala that announced Gable would have a statue outside CHA.
JRob was an alternate for 1972 Olympics. Gable and JRob went to the aquatics center to watch a friend compete (more 1/5)

While we disagreed on some fundamental things, he had an anecdote, story, or moral for almost every situation. He was quick witted and sharp.
He didn’t get to leave the sport on his terms, which was unfortunate but he will never be forgettable.

It’s not hyperbole to say J Robinson changed my life.
He changed thousands of them, but it was JRob who called me up in April of 2008 offering me an opportunity, one I decided to take just months after buying a house in PA.

One of the most influential figures in wrestling history passed on March 29, 2026. J Robinson competed for Oklahoma State and qualified for the 1972 Olympic Greco team before a legendary coaching career. Robinson was an assistant under Gary Kurdelmeier and Dan Gable (1972-84) at the University of Iowa before leading Minnesota to NCAA team titles in 2001, 2002, and 2007. The Golden Gophers were the first team outside Iowa or Oklahoma to win multiple D1 NCAA titles in men’s wrestling.

@ducphoc @adamtirapelle Agree. No time on the clock. First takedown wins. There would be some epic overtimes. A really long one every once in a while, but I think most would be over with two to three minutes.

Agreed wholeheartedly. The 3 biggest changes we could implement to make the most impact with the least disruption to the sport.
1. Penalty for off the mat in neutral
2. Eliminate overtime to create urgency and define the time period for competiton
3. Change views on control to reward offense. At minimum, you have to penalize creation of stalemates and potentially dangerous.
These 3 things would shorten the wrestling window, keep action flowing, allow for more ways to score, and encourage athletes to attack. In my opinion of course.

@MatScouts1 I sent 3. I said i like push out. I dislike overtime (allows kids to wait til ride outs and not risk). I dislike reaction time favoring defense over offense in takedown scenarios.
