The reality is, in the age of AI, the BEST we can say is we do not know if such videos are real or fake. Claims that journalists were able to independently verify are naive. A nation state is more than capable of forging the verification source just as readily as the original video. Moral of the story is you can no longer trust your own two eyes, and, as always, should never trust any government. Wild time to be alive.

🚨🇮🇱 The Netanyahu deepfake rumor is a case study in information warfare that requires no actual warfare. A genuine, geolocated, independently verified video of a world leader buying coffee was widely dismissed as AI-generated. With AI tools themselves amplifying the doubt. In this case, café geolocation, Instagram cross-reference, timeline matching, is exactly the kind of forensic journalism this era demands. Not every awkward video is a conspiracy. But you need the work to prove it. The Independent

@adxtyahq There's nothing insane about this, these are embedded development best practices. And no, Rust doesn't magically change anything. Recursion can still cause stack overflow and dynamic memory allocation can still fail.

NASA writes mission-critical flight software in C. And the rules are absolutely INSANE. > No recursion. Ever. > Every loop must have a provable upper bound. > No dynamic memory allocation after initialization. > Max ~60 lines per function. > Minimum 2 assertions per function. > Every return value must be checked. > Zero compiler warnings allowed. > Daily static analysis. Zero warnings there too. > No function pointers. > Restricted pointer dereferencing. This is how they write code at NASA / JPL for mission-critical systems.

College tuition prices don't follow typical market forces. The prices aren't high because of input costs, they're high because of demand distortions created by government subsidies. In other words, because students can pay more, universities charge more. Unlike with free markets, price caps may actually make sense here. Of course the far more sensible position is to remove the subsidies, but we all know that'll never happen.

Hello All, State Senator Shirley Turner has introduced legislation that would set a cap on tuition prices for NJ Sate Schools. The purpose of this motion is to incentivize people to remain in NJ for their education. While it's true that college has become unaffordable for many, this plan would only make things worse. Price caps do not address the underlying issues and artificial affordability only serves to create market shocks. If we want to make college more affordable there are other things that can and should be done. Remove artificial barriers to allow freshmen to live off-campus. Free faculty to make their own book selections without the bookstore limiting options due to their own want to inflated rental fees and maintain preferred manufacturer status. Offer and develop better open source study tools (especially for primary sources). Put a moratorium on all building and development projects until market place equilibrium is found. Increase admission fees to sporting events and use those funds to help offset other school costs. Incentivize individuals and organizations to invest in schools with aggressive and mutually beneficial endowments. Simplify credit transfers between schools. Decrease prerequisites for degrees and ensure those that are required are directly related to the field in question. Privatize the funding of athletic clubs and teams to offset the operation costs elsewhere. Offer more and discounted online classes. Etc. The developer of Duckstation (an open source Playstation 1 emulator) has added code to explicitly block both NixOS and Arch Linux from building the emulator. Connor McLaughlin, the Duckstation dev, says, “I'm sick of dealing with people complaining about things broken by packagers, and then being attacked by package maintainers who violate their distribution's codes of conduct.” He calls NixOS & Arch “hostile package environments”, adding, “This is why we can't have nice things.” github.com/stenzek/duckst…

The report said verbal altercation lead to violence, and seeing as he was the only one not throwing punches when he could've easily overpowered the group, I suspect he wasn't the one who turned it violent. If he were a POS, there would be bloody kids with missing teeth and there are not. Furthermore, I would wager the reason no one was arrested is because he refused to press charges. Sorry but if a group of kids want to voice their opinion, an adult has every right to voice theirs back. Someone needs to teach these kids that disagreement isn't a cause for violence, despite all the leftwing propaganda to the contrary.

Tucker Carlson on ICE shooting of Renee Good: “How come so few conservatives are viewing this story through a human lens? And why, when something similar, like the killing of Charlie Kirk, happens on the other side, did many on the left celebrate because they thought his political positions were wrong? We have a guess. Violence around the world is desensitizing Americans to violence at home.”
