If we truly care about #dogs and #cats we need a system that actually protects them. A centralised microchip portal isn’t just about reuniting lost #pets faster - it also creates a foundation for better dog welfare across the board. Right now, data is fragmented and often out of date. That means lost dogs fall through the cracks, ownership is harder to prove, and accountability is limited. A single, unified portal would change that. It would: * Reunite dogs with their owners quickly, reducing time in kennels and stress for both dogs and families * Ease the emotional burden on owners, giving certainty and faster outcomes in stressful situations * Support responsible ownership, with accurate, up-to-date records * Improve enforcement, helping tackle irresponsible breeding and illegal activity * Strengthen public safety, ensuring the right dog is linked to the right owner * Provide reliable data, enabling evidence-based policy decisions And this is just the start. By building this infrastructure now, we create the opportunity to improve traceability, supporting health insights, and increasing accountability across a dog’s lifetime. This is about getting the basics right - and building a system that truly works for dogs, owners, and the public. ROTTWEILER PUPPY HAS DISAPPEARED 💔 Last seen in #Wick, on Abson Road, #Bristol, #BS30 area on Friday, 27th March 2026 at 6pm. Police involved, please call 101 or Crime Stoppers anonymously on 0800555111 if you have any information. Original post: 12 week old #Rottweiler #puppy missing he has escaped and is no where to be found he is young and I’m worried as he’s on his own in the dark and cold please if there are any sightings or if you do see him He is chipped in our name. Did you know that the national Microchip status report of stray #dogs in 2023 by @Battersea_PA revealed that 81% of stray dogs handled by local authorities in the #UK could not be reunited because of unregistered or incorrect microchip database registrations. There are now 25 UK microchip databases. Do you know which database has your dog or cat’s microchip registration? Have you ever checked that your name and contact information is registered?
