Last week, as I followed the JSC interviews for judges, one moment quietly stood out.
Naima Sheikh Ahmed was asked how wealth should be divided in a polygamous marriage, especially where part of that wealth existed before a second wife entered the picture.
On the surface, the question sounds simple. But beneath it lies a deeper test of wisdom: how law balances fairness, history, and human emotion.
Listening to it, I realized something: justice is rarely about choosing sides; it’s about choosing principle.
If you were in her seat, guided by conscience and the law, how would you decide?

The State Officers and Public Officers Motor Car Loan Scheme Fund, administered by the National Treasury, is a staff welfare and support initiative designed to improve the working conditions of State and Public Officers serving in the National Government.
The scheme enables eligible officers to access affordable motor vehicle financing to support safe, reliable mobility, reduce personal financial strain, and enhance efficiency and effectiveness in public service delivery.
Under the scheme, eligible beneficiaries may access car financing based on job group as follows:
• Up to KSh 5 million – Chief Executive Officers of Government Agencies/Organs
• Up to KSh 4 million – Civil Service Grades S, T, U and equivalent
• Up to KSh 3 million– Civil Service Grades P, Q, R and equivalent
• Up to KSh 1.5 million – Civil Service Grades K, L, M, N and equivalent
• Up to KSh 800,000 – Civil Service Grades G, H, J and equivalent
• Up to KSh 600,000 – Civil Service Grades A, B, C, D, E, F and equivalent.
All financing under the scheme attracts a concessional interest rate of 4% per annum on a reducing balance, making it significantly more affordable than commercial alternatives.
To ensure accountability and sustainability of the Fund, applicants are required to follow a structured application process, including vehicle identification, submission of prescribed documentation, payment of a KSh 1,000 non-refundable application fee, and timely monthly repayments by the 10th of every month.
📌 Eligibility and loan limits are strictly determined by job group.
