@mnobb @CaliSportsWave @awfulannouncing Ahahaha. The ultimate sign that someone lost an argument and knows it. You probably like batting average over slugging+OBP You probably still think wins matter for a pitcher You’re probably against ABS

Gary Cohen: "A terrible decision by Chapman as he gets gunned down for the first out of the ninth with his team down by three runs!" Todd Zeile: "Gunned down, and rightly so. His run means nothing." Cohen: "It caps off a horrible, no good, awful week for Matt Chapman." #MLB

@mnobb @CaliSportsWave @awfulannouncing Until the 3rd run of the inning scores, the first has zero impact. And there’s no way the second and third runs score without the first scoring anyway. These aren’t even my words. I tried searching for a basic explanation so someone who doesn’t know baseball can understand

@mnobb @CaliSportsWave @awfulannouncing Maybe you can understand this: If winning by 3, a runner on first is irrelevant until the batter hits, as the potential tying run is still on deck. The focus is on the runner who can tie or win the game, not the runner who can only make it a 1-run game

@mnobb @nickthecardman @awfulannouncing The runner matters enormously! Getting him home is not important. Keep him on base so Devers can come home. That's what "the run doesn't matter" means. Him scoring in isolation does not help the team.

@mnobb @nickthecardman @awfulannouncing The point is you need three runs. So getting someone on base is more or less as good as scoring the run. If Devers scores, by definition Chapman will have also scored. So no point taking a risk to try to get Chapman home. The first run only matters if two more runs score.

@mnobb @nickthecardman @awfulannouncing They need three runs to tie, so that first run means nothing. They need two men to get on base. Taking risks in order to score one meaningless run is bad baseball -- it's the 9th, you need three runs or you might as well not score. The run that matters is two men behind Chapman.

@CaliSportsWave @mnobb @awfulannouncing No not in hindsight. Ofc it literally affects the score. No one is arguing otherwise. But the Mets would ignore that it keep playing as if nothing happened. The game plan is the same. It doesn’t affect them at all. Until tying run gets to the plate
