WHERE ARE THEY NOW Cristian Escobedo was a monster lineman who played both offensive and defensive line for the Xavier Saints from 2018-2021. As a team captain for Xavier, he led the Saints to their first DEL Championship in 2021. He was known for his work ethic and could even be caught pulling his dads full size truck around as a workout in the off season. He worked hard both on the field and off the field putting in the work in the classroom as well. As a senior at Xavier Cristian earned second team all-State as an offensive lineman. He posted 21 tackles including 2 for a loss that same season on the defensive side of the ball. He no doubt was a force to be reckoned with weighing in at 310 lbs in high school. I remember watching his explosiveness off the line early on and knew he was someone to watch as he played with intensity and played till the whistle on every play. Ultimately Cristian’s hard work on the field and in the classroom paid off as he landed a D2 football scholarship at a great academic school in Missouri S & T. Escobedo is now attending S & T and entering his third season there. He redshirted as a freshman giving him the great chance to adapt to college. Cristian has carried his work ethics into the next stage and going into his junior season he will be competing for a spot on the O-line at center and guard with the Miners. We had a chance to catch up with Cristian and I was impressed with the young man’s maturity and outlook. He is currently working on his Business major at S & T and would like to run his own business once he graduates. We asked Cristian some questions and here is what he had to say: So how are things going for you at S and T? Cristian, “They are going amazing football and class is no joke. I’ve been working hard in the classroom and on the field staying focus on the dream.” What is your end goal? Cristian, “My end goal is to finish college and get my degree in business and run my own company once I’m done with football.” I have to ask how did you adjust to the winters there? Cristian, “Man I’m still not adjusted to it, over here in Missouri the weather is bipolar one day is 70 the next day it’s 12. But for me it’s doesn’t matter gotta keep working and get that degree.” What would you say has been the hardest thing to overcome on your journey? Cristian, “The hardest thing to overcome in my journey is the injuries I’ve been through I just recently got cleared to start playing again because I had torn my labrum but I’m hungry to get back on the field and show people the guy who dominates and runs people into the ground.” We are excited to see him get back on the field. We miss seeing you in the black and gold. Tell me what was your favorite high school moment? Cristian, “There’s so many but my go to is the Championship game against Palm springs in the 4th quarter where we were back up and we didn’t have a play call and I ended up snapping it catching everyone off guard and picking up the first down to seal the game and winning the first ever championship at Xavier.” Making a bit of history on that one. What goals for the upcoming season? Cristian, “Well as a team are one main focus is to be better than last year no mistakes and no errors. We are determined to be great and with the coaches that we have and players we can be that, right now being focus is step one.” So I remember seeing you pull a full size truck as one of your workouts in the off-season so I have to ask are you pulling trucks around still to prepare for the season? What does your off season workouts look like? Cristian, “Yes I do remember that, the off season as a D2 athlete are no joke constantly lifting, conditioning, and speed work. You have to balance everything out, nothing is easy when it comes to the off-season that’s when Coaches look and pay attention the most so for me it’s to work harder than everyone else.” There's some great things to be learned by younger players in that answer. What advice would you give to incoming freshmen to keep from falling behind? Cristian, “The one piece of advice to young athletes is that Discipline is everything. The moment you slack, it becomes a habit and bad habits will follow you everywhere, on the field, in the gym, and in the classroom. Stay locked in, stay hungry and handle your business every single day. When it gets tough and believe me it will. Remind yourself on why you started in the first place. Your mind is your strongest muscle, believe in yourself and push through and get 1% better everyday.” Great advice. Go to meal before games? Cristian, “Can’t go wrong with Jersey mikes sub and a cookie and water” Best moment so far in your college experience? Cristian, “Best moment would be meeting my life long friends that get to play the same sport I do because we go through everything together. And just enjoying my first love and that is Football.” Anyone you credit with giving you the motivation, drive and strength to succeed? Cristian, “I definitely have to say my family especially my parents they are my rocks and I keep doing what do because of them. My Mom is a special lady that guides me through when there doesn’t feel like a way and I can’t thank her enough. But my Dad man where do I even start, me and him talk everyday giving me the best advice know to man kind, pushing me to do better and staying on me when I start falling behind. I can write a whole book about them and how much they mean to me but it would never be ending. Without them, without the push, Without discipline I wouldn’t be where I am now living my dream.” Would you say that the dedication and sacrifice that was required, was worth where it's gotten you? Cristian, “All the blood sweat and tears was worth it, because now I get to say I play D2 ball and earn my degree at the same time. Every time I stepped onto that field to put in the work, I always reminded myself it’s better on the other side. The grind, the sacrifices, late nights, and early mornings it all led me here. I’m not just chasing a dream, I’m conquering it.” Coach James Dockery of Xavier said that, “Cristian Escobedo was an absolute force for us during his career, anchoring both sides of the ball at a time when we really needed that to be successful. Not only that but Cristian was a hard worker in the classroom as well which helped pave a way for him to play D2 ball! Cris has a great work ethic and I’m excited to watch his career unfold over these next few years.” We love seeing local players use this sport to advance their future and Cristian has done just that by riding his football talents into a high academic school where he will get a great boost on starting his career off on the right foot. I have no doubt with this young man’s work ethics and proven track record of not being afraid to work, he will be doing even more amazing things down the road. Be sure to catch a couple of the Miners games this upcoming season and look for #77 to be on the field doing his thing. Cristian thank you for taking the time to talk with us we are excited to follow you on your journey. We are on the hunt for past players. They don’t have to be playing football, but we would like past players with stories of success rather it’s on the football field, school or in their careers. If you have a player that you would like an update on or a player you would like to see featured in our “Where are they now” please message us with their name, where they played and a way to contact them via phone, IG, X.

For this segment of Ballers update we feature Noah Scott. Noah Scott was a standout two way player at Xavier Prep. He played a part in Xavier’s run to become CO-DEL champs in 2021. In the offseason Noah worked on his skill sets. Once his Junior year came around you could tell that his hard work paid off. When the team needed a first down you knew where the ball was going. Noah ability to catch contested balls was definitely on display. If the ball was in the air people knew he’ll come down with it. On defense he was a menace to the opposing OC. They had to find other ways to attack the defense. When they did come his way he made them pay for it. From what I’ve been told and saw with my own eyes. Noah was about his business. Austin a former teammate of Noah said, “he’s a hard worker and a good guy. Great teammate always willing to help out the younger athletes." Noah ended up getting injured after his Junior season. He was sideline for his entire Senior season. That didn’t stop him from contributing to the team. He became an extension of the coaching staff. He continued mentoring the younger athletes in practice and at the games. He did manage to secure a scholarship at Western Oregon. He’s now in the class of 2027. I was able to asked him a few questions. He was excited to finally get back on the field after being out for two years. Since our interview Noah team has played a few games. Below was our conversation. FBCV- So first off how is life up there treating you? NS - Life out here is treating me well! This was a good opportunity to play ball in the west coast at the college level. FBCV - I have seen some videos of you recently. You look focus and ready to go. What did you do this off-season to prepare? NS - What I did to prepare myself for the season was watch film to see not only what I did good but what I can improve on. It is the little details that matter. FBCV - I heard you will be playing against another Coachella valley player, Osiel Moreno in your first game. How do you predict that playing out? Do you two have any history playing against each other? NS- I play Idaho State first game on the road against a well known friend of mine Osiel Moreno. Me and Osiel Go way back to middle school when we played club soccer together and now we are off playing college football chasing our dreams. FBCV - What is your advice for younger players trying to get to your level? NS - My advice to younger players is to keep pushing and always work hard because you never know who is watching you. Mess ups are bound to happen in football, but mess up going full speed because coaches can’t teach effort! FBCV - What are you majoring in and what are your future plans? NS - I am majoring in business and I will minor in marketing to eventually work in the business side of pro teams. FBCV - What are your goals on the field this season? NS - My goals this season is to make very few mistakes and staying healthy! FBCV- Lastly my guy what would you like to say to your young bros back at Xavier for this season? NS - To my Xavier boys play for the X and stay disciplined. Nothing is given and everything is earned. Get this Money!! @noah90969500 @XCPHS_Football
